Really excited about using our new van , sold a vw t4 autosleeper trident and bought a eriba familia 320gt which we love , first trip over Easter. Have a few questions as struggling to find a wheel clamp that fits as have had to return 2 as fouls the suspension dampers behind the alloys , any suggestions welcomed. Also I would be grateful if anyone knows how to adjust the door of the van as needs to come in a bit at the bottom. Pics to follow.

Not sure how this comes out!!! but its from Amazon and called Streetwize SWWL2 and costs £20.36. Very easy to attach, I think there is a forum string already started on the subject of wheel clamps but not sure how to search!!!

Hi Steve and welcome to Eribafolk.
Regarding the wheel clamp, there must be something that'll fit. There are many Familia owners on here and we've not heard of any problems. Is it a classic Familia or a recent one and what size wheels does it have?
To be going on with here's a thread regarding some of the wheel clamps used by folk on here. Wheel Clamp
However, I'm sure a Familia owner will be along shortly to give you more advice.
Strangely enough, we had a discussion regarding Eriba doors quite recently. Here's the thread :- Warped entrance door

Thanks for joining us. Looking forward to seeing some photos.

I have a 310 without alloy wheels (not sure if that makes a difference). I use MILENCO COMPACT MOTORHOME CAMPER & CARAVAN WHEELCLAMP FOR 12"-16" WHEELS.
It does go on, you have jiggle it slightly to avoid the suspension and then tighten being careful not to snag anything, but it is a quick operation. Double check it is suitable for alloys too, although I think they have others in the range.

I think ours is called Euroclamp, a bit fiddly but does go on. Ellen.

Like Ellen, we use a Bulldog Euroclamp too. It goes on five-spoke alloys.

It isn't cheap, but I'm not sure that there is such a thing as a really good, really cheap clamp. And you might squeeze the odd half crown out of an insurance company for fitting an 'approved' one, so I guess it's worth it.

You can get one on Amazon for eighty five quid delivered, which is a lot less than most other places are selling them for.

There's a fair amount of faffage involved with any decent clamp, and you can pretty much guarantee wet knees or barked knuckles at some time or other. It's an occupational hazard. They aren't the most convenient of things.

This Bulldog one is quite compact, doesn't weigh a ton and is pretty quick to put on and take off. Since you fit it at five o-clock or seven o-clock on the rim with the ends resting on the ground, it is theoretically - and irritatingly - possible to park with a wheel spoke obstructing all four of the fitting positions, but it's not very likely.

It's the faffage that gets to me!
Am I alone in thinking that it's just not worth it? How many Eriba thefts are there?
And, more to the point, how many thefts of the standard big white boxes are there even when a wheel clamp is used?

ps we've just declared 'faffage' as the word of the day and will reward the grandchildren for correct use!

With great difficulty and much bad language.
I use a Milenco "Original" while the caravan is stored, but on a site I think the hitchlock is probably sufficient.

I have a Familia 320 with steel wheels and when on site I use the streetwise which is lightweight and very easy to use. However when the van is at home I also use a big clunky wheel clamp called "rise and clamp" it has internal locks and a large plate that covers the wheel, I also use the streetwise on the other wheel as well.....

Thanks for all your comments, our van is a 2009 van, I've just returned the bulldog euroclamp as it didn't fit properly on the right hand side of the wheel and the other side has mudflaps , I also returned a esl diamond sold secure clamp which fouled the suspension dampers , I wouldn't be bothering as have a robstop Hitchcock but lots of insurance companies insist on both a Hitchcock and a wheel clamp and it does reduce the theft excess.
I like the look of the cheap one on Amazon , was also told by automotive leisure that they sell the sas superclamp duo but that looks a faff to use with the Allen key unless you take a drill! And there are 3 types of clamps .
Interesting about bending the door gently does this bring the hinge in too ? Has anyone tried this ?

It's completely academic now that you've sent it back, but I'd be interested to know what you mean when you say it didn't fit properly. And wouldn't it have been possible to bend the mudflap up out of the way while you put the clamp on? Anyway, no matter.

With regards to reshaping the door, bring the hinge in relative to what? The door is a simple, light framework skinned with aluminium on one side and a vacuum-formed moulding or some pretend wood on the other. It weighs next to nothing and lifts off its hinge pins all too easily, as I've found out twice by kneeling down near it and forgetting it was there when I straightened up.

You can increase or decrease the angle of bend at the crease line (where the centre trim is) by the judicious application of a moderate amount of muscle. It's just a case of going carefully, supporting it properly to stop it twisting and doing it a little bit at a time.

If the worst comes to the worst and you snap it in half you can always fit two extra hinges and have it like a stable door

.
