Wheel Trims - Keep or Remove?

I'm not normally ham-fisted but having checked the tightness of our Pucks wheel bolts during a recent trip away I cracked one of the the plastic wheel trims when replacing it. I've never been a fan of plastic wheel trims but have retained them to keep the Pucks original look and condition. This might be an opportunity to remove the trims and start running the van without. I would welcome any ideas about how to make the plain black steel wheels look just a little more attractive e.g. have any of you painted the wheels silver or fitted chrome bolt caps or should I just run them black? - any thoughts and ideas would be welcome

Tony

Ditch them and get a pair of Minilites

Not very helpful, but it'd look the dog's b*llocks

I've always coveted these wheels, just never had anything that they'd suit.

My Familia came with wheel trims and for some strange reason they had roughly painted the steel wheels Matt black I took the trims off and managed to get the black paint off, underneath were lovely looking silver wheels.

I don't like wheel trims for a few reasons, firstly I use those green wheel nut indicators to see if they have moved and also when the trim is attached the wire in the trim presses hard against the valve which can make them prematurely fail.

This link shows my van with the steel wheels

Thank you Poptop320 . I agree with all your reasons for not having trims. I've checked our wheels and they look as if they were sprayed black at the factory. Sadly I don't think there is any shiny silver underneath other than bare metal! - however the black is in good condition (no rust or obvious scratches) so I think I might invest in some wheel nut covers and see what it looks like.

Well, having removed the wheel trims I found (to my great satisfaction) that the bosses covering the Hub nuts are made of some sort of alloy that polishes up a treat (nice shiny silver) so these, plus silver wheel bolt covers purchased from a local car accessory shop, has resulted in a new look for our Puck. Will post picture in due course.

One reason for painting the steel wheels black is so that the silver doesn't show between the spokes of the trims. It looks pants:

Guilty as charged, M'Lud. I gave our 230's wheels a quick blow over with matt black some time after taking that picture and it looked better.

A mischievous person might sneak round in the dead of night and turn a couple of them a flat or two and then amuse himself over a cup of char by watching the resultant kerfuffle the next morning...

Not that I know anyone with a warped sense of humour like that, of course.
