Our instruction manual only states that "The Trumavent circulating air fan together with the gas heating, ensures a better distribution of hot air in the van."
What I would like to know is does anyone use this system without the gas fire to blow air around the van and is it safe to do so? It states that "further information can be obtained from a separate instruction manual TRUMA", which of course, we haven't got.
Also , the heater's witch in our van is slightly different to the one shown in the manual in so far as ours has a red sliding 3 position off and on button. The top setting ( a tadpole or a fan blade symbol ) is faster but noisier whereas the A position is quieter.

Roger

The Trumavent blown air system is independent of the space heater and as such may be safely used on it's own to provide air circulation without heating.

The fan pulls air from the back of the heater's cast aluminium heat exchanger, and so will only circulate hot air when the heater is hot.

Your control panel is the wall-mounted TEB-1 model - the TEB-2 fan controller for the Truma S3002 space heater is usually mounted on the top of the space heater, as is the TEB-3 controller for the later S3004 heater.

The 3-position slide switch selects Off - Manual - Auto fan operation:

Off - Fan off.
Manual - Fan speed adjusted by the control knob.
Auto - Fan speed adjusted automatically according the the space heater's temperature.
A temperature sensor in the fan's housing controls its speed according to the heater's temperature, ie, a slow fan speed when the heater is cool which automatically speeds up as the heater gets warmer.

For what it's worth, I reckon that short of an air conditioning unit the only thing that will make a noticeable difference is a mains-powered portable desk-type fan.

You need to generate the movement of air necessary to encourage the evaporation of sweat, and it's that action which makes you feel cooler.

I don't think a computer fan in the vent will be much use at all. Sure, it'll pull a bit of warm air out, but it'll only be a bit; these things are designed to be used on a box not that much bigger than something the size of a very small suitcase. After all, even a decent-sized domestic extractor fan doesn't move the air in a kitchen or bathroom enough to be able to feel it moving.

And any air which replaces it is going to be at pretty much the same temperature as that you are venting because there won't be much of a temperature gradient in a van which already has all the windows open.

You've got to create a breeze in there, and neither the Truma heater fan nor a computer fan will cut the mustard.

What on earth are some of you carrying with you on holiday if a desktop fan is too big when most of you seem to tow with things the size of furniture vans?

Our boot is full of roof but we've never had a problem finding room to carry a fan.

Damn! I knew there must be a logical explanation.

Pete the computer fan moves 54 CFM/ 91sq..7m/h so pulling air through the door vents
and taking out warm air from the roof space it would help.
It is not the same as sitting in your underpinnings with a 12" fan blasting away admittedly
but it is small and out of the way.

But it won't generate anywhere near enough movement of air to be able to feel the difference, and that's what Roger is after.

To get even remotely close to that you'd need a fan which pulled your toupé off as you walked past.

Alright, the computer fan would only use 0.02 of an amp, its not taking up work surface,
it weighs about 140gms. and at 120mm fan dia. makes very little noise but it does move air

I agree that it's not taking up work surface, makes little noise, weighs next-to-nothing and uses less electricity than a mouse reading by candlelight, but it's no more than an ornament if it doesn't make you feel any cooler.

I'd bet my best conker if you held a lit match eighteen inches away from the sucking side of that fan the flame wouldn't even tremble.

Three pints of best mild and the air in my strides would move more than that.

And there was I thinking you were wearing Plus Fours, along with your Ten Gallon Hat
Just tried it it will move the match flame (but I've set the bl**dy lounge on fire now)
