Trumavent Circulating Air Fan
Trumavent Circulating Air Fan

Our instruction manual only states that "The Trumavent circulating air fan together with the gas heating, ensures a better distribution of hot air in the van."
What I would like to know is does anyone use this system without the gas fire to blow air around the van and is it safe to do so? It states that "further information can be obtained from a separate instruction manual TRUMA", which of course, we haven't got.
Also , the switch in our van is slightly different to the one shown in the manual in so far as ours has a red sliding 3 position off and on button. The top setting ( a tadpole or a fan blade symbol ) is faster but noisier whereas the A position is quieter.

Hi Keith. Now you've got us thinking............
Seriously though, what really got us thinking was this:-

Now, unless someone can tell us differently, we are presuming that this is an air conditioning unit? It is mounted on the towing frame of a tiny (Puck sized) caravan on the next pitch to us and is running really quietly. The air it is dispelling is not very warm but presumably that's because of the size of the van?
Any info. welcome.
Anyway, as our 3 qty computer cooling fans which I mounted in an aluminium frame to cool the fridge are working splendidly, I was thinking about a batch of 4 fans in a frame permanently mounted on the inside of our hit and miss door vent.
I think the biggest problem with this extreme temperature is the lack of air movement. Even at night with the windows and roof vents open, the air is quite still and needs to be stimulated.
Again, any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated and are bound to help any other owners.

I've just checked the handbook, and the tadpole is labelled "Manual control, e.g. Ventilation". The "A", on the other hand, says "Automatic, e.g. Heating". So it looks as if blowing cool air around is approved. Which is a good job, because we also have the tadpole switch and that's what we do. I think it just draws air from beneath the floor and pushes it around, so no major chilling effect, but at least it sets up a bit of a breeze.

PS I suspect your "A" setting is quieter because, being automatic, it doesn't see the need to warm you up right now.

Try pulling the warm air out of the downwind vent with a fan or fans

Why not just buy a cheap 230v oscillating fan and use that inside the van?
I use a cheap fan heater, we use it to warm the awning in the evenings plus it has a cool setting which allows it to blow non heated air around the van when it's too hot...

Yes, we used those for years when we were camping. The biggest drawback was transporting them. We went from a 9" propeller to a tower design.
Both worked fine and the latter was easier to carry but they would still take up precious space in the Eriba,
Do you use the blown air system in your van or do you carry a plug in fan?

Like Poptop320, we carry a small 2Kw fan heater to heat the awning that also has a cold setting. Best of both worlds.
I suggested buying a fan as you will be able to get one at any Spanish supermarket whereas a fan heater might be a problem in July.

Fans are fine but I'm a a/c engineer And there is no substitute for proper a/c, fans just to move the hot air around. So if you can get some proper refrigeration you'll notice a difference straight away. It's a bit like car air conditioning why would you ever buy a car without air-conditioning. I'm not even being snobby it's just once you've had a car with air-conditioning You wouldn't want one without.

This is a very topical and interesting thread and l would like to add my views.
I am sure Clive is absolutely right in what he says about a.cs verses fans however there are down sides to a.cs. The first is the cost and they are an item that can be trouble some especially if only occasionally used.I have on many occasions when staying hot climates woken in the middle of the night freezing as the air con has been left on. Also like central heating running full blast it can have and adverse effect on how you feel as it can give a very dry environment.
At home we use a 12 inch desk fan (usually) placed in front of an open window to circulate the air when temperatures soar. We use the same fan in our Triton sat on top of the fridge, it is running 24/7 at the moment. Every night we start of on top of the quilt but usually wake in the morning to find we have crawled under during the night and we are currently in the Algarve. Cold or movement of air? I personally think that good air movement is more important, and at night the temperatures generally drop. Of course it might be different if you want to be in doors during the day, but I can't see the logic in being out and about with your vans if you are going to be inside during the day.
I appreciate what people say about size of said fans and carrying or storing them, but then that's another good reason to have a T5 as a tow vehicle.
