Gas fire

I have a 1990 Triton, when I got it I tried the gas fire and it worked first time. I simple press down on the dial and a clicking noise was evident and the fire lit. Bit cold last week and tried to light the fire with on luck. I have a new full gas bottle but on trying to light there was no clicking noise and I was unable to light. There was also no smell of gas when trying to light. Most of the numbers etc have worn off the dial and I,m unable to correctly see the dial location before pressing. Any advice? How do I light the fire?

Thanks
Ian and Caroline

It sounds like your battery needs changing on ours this was under the front of the fire on the right hand side, the battery fires the piezo igniter, you may have an older friction type lighter in which case you need further advice

Let us know how you get on😎 sounds strange but sometimes the batteries just need a turn in the housing, they corrode around the contack points and then don't function propely (reminds me of someone)

One of the contacts was corroded due to a old battery, didn't even know it had a battery! Will change the batteries regularly to avoid in future, fire lite on first attempt.

Thanks Ian and Caroline

Remember to only use temperature resistant(+70C) and leak proof Migon batteries.....

Edit:

Mignon (fat fingers and poor eyesight) as Aaron suggests Duracell.

As I'd never heard of these, I just googled 'Migon' battery and found that it should be 'Mignon' which relates only to the size, what in the UK we call 'AA'.

As for 'temperature resistant', the advice on the caravan forums that I found suggests that good old Duracells are perfectly OK for this job.

Unless anyone knows otherwise?

Fat fingers and poor eyesight, Aaron is right the Hymer manual states Mignon which will google Duracell.

Here is a good video showing how the Truma S3002 operates, 2 minutes in it shows them replacing the AA batteries for Varta industrial.

I would presume Duracell will be ok.

When I used to ride bikes for a living back in the days of yore, Pete Hampson (son of Frank, the inventor of Dan Dare) worked for the same outfit and was a mate of mine. He used to let me use the phone in his house to call Mrs P in the States when we were courtin'.

I did pay him...

I don't have many claims to fame - even once removed - so I treasure that one
