Butane gas v Camping Gaz

I've currently got very expensive Camping Gaz, but want to use Butane and use an adaptor in case I get caught short in France where I believe only camping gaz is available. Can anyone tell me if the wider Butane 4.5 bottle will fit into the Pan locker?

Firstly, I'm sorry that no one has replied to your question yet but that's probably because your Eriba is a bit of a rare beast and the majority of the membership have later vans with internal gas lockers.

Does anyone know if the external gas lockers on older Eribas were all the same size or whether they varied according to the model? If we had the dimensions then someone with a similar sized locker could help out.

If you intend using your caravan in the winter months it would be a good idea to use propane. You may also want to consider using a lightweight bottle.

This is the setup in our 2003 Triton:

We always use EHU but as you can see, we carry a lightweight 6Kg Calor propane cylinder as an emergency backup in the UK and on the Continent together with a CampinGaz 907 cylinder for use with the Cadac and as a further backup should the Calor run out while touring where refills are not available. I carry an adapter for the 907 cylinder but until today it hasn't been out of its box.

Have a look here for the dimensions of the Calorlite cylinder. (Click on the 'spec' tab.)

Let us know if we can be of further assistance.

I agree with Aaron and his above post. I am carrying a light weight propane cylinder and have been on the continent for nearly 3 months and still have plenty of Gas. I would anticipate it lasting for the rest of our stay (returning in September), in fact for the rest of the year. The only down side to the light weight Propane cylinders is that since Calor had a faulty batch they are in short supply. I wanted a second to take with me (just in case) but my stockiest could not get hold of them! The advantage of the lightweight 6 Kg calor propane cylinder is exactly that, it is light weight. The reason for using propane over butane in the winter is that butane can freeze.

Sorry I can't advise in respect of the bottles and Pan locker sizes, ours is a Triton.

Simon

Only if you are thinking about booking pitch no.12 at Ice Station Zebra. It freezes solid at about minus 140°

Butane stops boiling (converting to gas) at about freezing point but starts to be reluctant to do so at about +3 or 4°C.

Propane gives you fewer bangs per buck than butane but doesn't stop gassing off until about -42°.

We still haven't had a response to the above question.

Can anyone advise please?

Someone had a new locker cover made but I cannot remember who it was.
They should know the dimensions.

You may be thinking about Hob's link Rod. Here it is:- old style gas locker
and when you visit the relevant Kool Classics page they suggest that the replacement fits all models, from Puck to Triton.
