pop top problem
Another alternative repair would be to remove the catch then use an aluminium plate to cover the damaged area fixing the plate with a number of screws into the good wood around the damaged area(assuming there is some). The catch would need fitting to the new plate with screws and nuts before fixing the plate to the wood. The aluminium plate could be painted a similar colour to the headlining on the hatch. I appreciate it wouldn't be an invisible repair but it would be reasonably easy and effective. I would be happy to make the plate and send it to you FOC you would just need to send me a cardboard template with the positions of the catch holes and fixing holes. I am not sure if any of this makes sense and as I don't have my Eriba yet I maybe be somewhat confused as to whether this would work. The picture below may make things clearer (or not)

Whether it is worth doing this will obviously depend on how much of a reduction you can get on the price.
Good luck with your decision making.

If it was mine I reckon I'd think about using a router to cut a square shallow recess and embed a suitably-sized piece of aluminium plate into it with polyester resin (Isopon) before sanding it level, gluing the torn headlining back and reattaching the latch base in its original position.
A lot of faff and a lot of dust, but with a bit of care it'd be virtually invisible and at least as strong as it was before.
Not a dissimilar idea to yours, really.

Cool we have some great ideas. I at least have a starting point.
If I go for it will it tow ok with just 3 catches?
Broken catch front or back? If front I wouldn't risk it. Try and tie it down somehow.

Don't panic about the towbar fitting. It's only natural that people will mention the problems they have encountered, it's less likely that folk will say when they have no problems. We had a detachable towbar fitted to our Honda when we bought it, I was concerned having read those same horror stories. No problems, towbar and electrics absolutely fine.
Always look on the bright side.

Cut out the middle man and save money.

On our Audi we had a removable Westfalia towbar with dedicated 13 pin electrics fitted. The installer recoded the car's ECU via a hand-held device and everything works beautifully. The car now senses when a trailer is attached and automatically adjusts the electronic stability program accordingly. I think it cost about £700 in total.

Yes going to our local towbar fitter. Seems good has good reviews on line.
Not going to main dealer they just cut me off as did not know what to price.
Am going for an alco with twin electrics as an older caravan. Only costing 280
Ok seriously thinking about little van. But have 3 hrs drive back. With pop top not strapping down on one peg. How can I keep it down for trip back. Before repair.
Thought strap going round but thought would mark.
Then I thought of duck tape. But again thought it would take paint work off.
Then I thought string going from middle handle to fastening.
Any ideas
Is there an inside handle?
If so you could put a broom handle or other length of wood just below the lockers and tie the central handle to it thus preventing the roof from popping up!
