Front Bed Collapsing

Whilst on holiday the front bed in our Troll collapsed, the aluminium strip that supports the lowered table on the bulk head came off completely. It transpired that the bulk head between the front of the van and the gas locker is a sandwich of polystyrene between two sheets of thin plywood. There is no way that it will support the aluminium strip for the bed. Has anyone else experienced this weakness?
After thinking, my solution is tending towards drilling right through the bulk head and putting an aluminium strip in the gas locker and attaching the bed support with nuts and bolts. Hopefully this will prevent further collapse. Any thoughts on this would be gratefully received.
Many thanks.

I had the same problem, ref this topic

Triton front bed repair

I don't use the front bed any more but the fix did work.

Note the gap between the floor and the rail may not be parallel

I would be concerned that if the bolts were overtightened it would crush the ply behind the rail.

Just experienced the exact same problem on our new Troll 540, first time we used the front bed it collapsed and the aluminium strip ripped out of the plywood, was held in place by just 4 small self tapping screws ! Lowdhams tec coming to site to fix it later this week, definately not fit for purpose as it is, hopefully they have a good solution 😬

Never had a problem with either the '01 or '05 540's and I used the front bed quite often. At 17 stone I must be a fair test for the fixings. Maybe later vans used lighter materials?

Picture of the self tappers that were holding the bed rail in position...not surprised they did not hold 😩

It would be interesting to see a pic of the rail in place on a Cernay built van compared to a Bad Waldsee. One could say, 'so much for German engineering'.

The plywood the rail is fixed to is a sandwich construction of two thin sheets of ply with 12mm of expanded polystyrene inside. It is not realist to get a solid fixing on it.
Best fix would be to glue and screw the rail back into place and then glue a piece of veneered plywood directly underneath this down to the floor, so the weight is transmitted to the floor. If handy you could go one step further and make a mini magazine rack out of the plywood instead. Something 50/60mm in depth would be good for papers, magazines, maps, table mats etc.

Credit to Lowdhams, they sent out a technician to site to sort out the issue, he's reinstalled the rail with more fixings and added a good helping of glue, hopefully this will solve the problem. Thanks for the idea about the extra pieces of wood to support the rail and transfer the load to the floor.
