Went to the Forbidden Corner with the youngest, about 13/14 at the time. Had to cut the visit short as she is very claustrophobic and completely freaked in one of the underground chambers. Not good. One place she did love is the Pencil Museum, somewhere in the Lake District, can't remember where exactly. They have the worlds biggest pencil, strange but true, but she liked the place.

Emmerdale. OK, you either love it or hate it.

You can do your own tour of the Emmerdale locations. The latest location is a Private Film Set in the grounds of Harwood House, north of Leeds (west of Wetherby) so it's a "no go" area.

However, Butler's Farm is Brooklands Farm Eccup lane, Eccup, to the west of Harwood House. IMG_2253.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)

IMG_2251.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte) and Home Farm is in fact, Creskelt Hall, Creskelt Lane, Arthington, just to the North West of Butler's Farm.

Finally, to the NW of Leeds, between Shipley and Guiseley, is the lovely village of Esholt which was the Emmerdale village for 21 years until 1997 when they moved to Harwood House. You can still have a drink in the Woolpack or buy something in the village Post Office/Shop.

OK don't laugh, on this trip we also did Heartbeat's Aidensfield (Goathland), and tried to find some of the Edinburgh locations from the Rebus novels

If in the south of England, the Royal Navy Submarine Museum at Gosport is well worth a visit with a tour of the submarine Alliance, whose decks I once had the priviledge of scrubbing - especially memorable. https://www.submarine-museum.co.uk/photographs . If you look closely at the Morse key in the radio shack you'll still be able to make out the indent of my right-hand index finger.

The Vendee, France this time.

Georges Clemenceau, publisher of Zola's J'Accuse, later to become the French PM during WWI. He retired to his fisherman's cottage with gardens inspired by his friend Monet in Saint Vincent sur Jard. A great place to spend a couple of hours.

House and Gardens of George Clemenceau

Also the Tropical gardens at St Cyr are fabulous and well worth a visit (especially nearing the summer).

Another place well worth visiting is the Fort de Mutzig http://www.fort-mutzig.eu/ which is located approximately 20mins from Strasbourg or 30mins from Selestat so easily accessible if one is holidaying in the general area. The scale of this fortification defies belief and it is only when you've been walking around underground for the best part of 30mins and the guide shows you on a scale model the route that you've taken that this hits home.

Well what a bu**er We stayed at Camping Municipal, Molsheim in 2012 http://www.molsheim.fr/decouvrir/camping-municipal.htm which, it would appear, is on the doorstep.

A fabulous campsite with a shower/toilet block of Cathedral proportions. Brilliant village with model railway, first home of the Bugatti but not a mention of Fort de Mutzig. We would have enjoyed a visit there. However, a great excuse to go again sometime because it's a fabulous part of France.

catch a steam or diesel train to Sheringham and spend the day there

Train ticket is similar to parking for the day in Sheringham and you get to ride on a real steam train.

Have dinner, shop, visit the market sit by the sea, whatever, then ride back to your car on a "real" train ............. a grand day out.
