The Eriba Toinette

I saw one for sale this morning and wondered what it was. As far as I can see it's a 1970's Triton with the old type split front window. However, it weighs in at less than 750kg (actually 745kg) instead of the standard Triton weight of the time (780kg) and was designed to fit a lower towing weight band in compliance with French legislation.

From a gross vehicle weight of 750Kg required a special insurance in some European countries and cen'etait not the case in the other. Excluding our Triton makes a GVWR of 765Kg. We could just cut a kilo changing the Layouts but BST configuration that pleases the public. The solution is a little cheated with legislation. Other amenities of this "BS, O, M" with a GVW of more than 750Kg will call themselves "Triton", will be called the BST Toinette and compliance certificate will say are PTAC is 749Kg while the the Triton will be superior. But the empty weight is the same for both, it will simply load a less Toinette. In 1974, this problem does put more and 77, all were called TRITON. The name "Toinette" only exist for Triton distributed by Socanor in France

Don't know but maybe since 1977. Previously it would appear to have been a bona fide model. It was plated as a Toinette with no mention of a Triton.
