Hi all

Looks like a great forum you guys have here, would appreciate some advice so just wanted to say hi before bombarding the site with questions.

My first question is do you guys find problems when on UK camp sites regarding the door being on the opposite side to UK vans, just wondered about the rules where you have to have a maker post in a certain spot, by this I would guess they would want an Eriba with the tow hitch pointing inwards or do they make exceptions for you guys, I have no problem with making an extension lead and water pipe to suit.

Kind regards
Adam

Many caravans these days have there door on other side as a lot of motor homes and our VW campervan. In many years on different sites I have never been told to move or had issues with what way round to pitch. Hope you find your Eriba soon , What model do you prefer ? Good luck.

It has been known occasionally on the odd Caravan club site although the head office say its not a club rule, I have never had a problem on any independent sites as they are usually more interested in filling pitches than in which side the door is.

Hi Paul

Many thanks for your advice, we are thinking about a triton at the moment possibly the 430gt but then can't decide maybe to go for a smaller model without a toilet, just looking about at the moment.

Best regards Adam

We have been asked on a couple of Club sites to park 'tother way on but never on the continent or a commercial site in the UK.
Shameless plug alert
We have a PuckL 225GT for sale at the moment. There is a post further down the page. If you are interested happy to give further info.
Whatever you go for good luck and happy hunting, can't go wrong with an Eriba.

We use C&CC sites mainly when caravanning in the UK, never been told to 'front in' because of the door :) On only one occassion at a private UK site did they insist that we went in the 'wrong way' because of the door - as we have no mover it was a bit of a hassle :( We won't return to the site !!!

Thanks all for your advice, when you guys book a site do you mention you have an Eriba as in for warn them or simply turn up ,my main concern is I don't want to be aggravated just because I have something that's not the run of the mill in this country.

Best regards
Adam

On a Club site you would have told them as they normally want to know the exact size of your unit. On the continent they don't care what you have or how you pitch it, Don't let it put you off having an Eriba.

I have a 310 and it has never been an issue. You take up so little space on the pitch.
Our 310 has a fixed bed and no toilet, with a dining area in the front. A kampa kazi is used for overnight toilet needs.
If you want something small and are not concerned about a toilet, then I can thoroughly recommend the 310. We went through the same process at the end of 2014 before choosing our 310. We love it.

What about people with tents? Do they have to pitch them a certain way round in the U.K.? How strange!
We got the Triton and I'm really looking forward to having a loo and being able to get ready for bed without huffing over to the loo block.

This is not always the case, Julie, although if you just turn up at the site without booking and take pot luck then the question might probably never get asked.

However, a couple of French campsites that we have booked in advance via the Internet have had a space on their booking forms in which to enter the size of the unit (overall size that is including the awning if being erected). This is because on some more popular sites the managers like to allocate pitches commensurate with the size of the rig. The other reason of course is that some people look at the campsite on Google Earth and attempt to reserve a pitch that they think suitable e.g. near the facilities, away from the children's play area and offering some shade. Whilst this placement may look appealing via GE in reality it might not be appropriate for the size of van etc wishing to set up there.

All that said - only a few selected vans come much smaller than the Eriba Touring/Pucks LOL.

I have found that most of the CC sites I visited only one or two said do as you please. The others were pitch nose in! even though it was very quiet and out of season. Rather than get into the dispute with wardens who to be fair are only doing their best and were very pleasant, I conformed. I can see how it can be frustrating but hey ho, life is to short and at the end of the day I just want to enjoy my stay. I think some are ready prepared for arguments as they followed up the request quoting health and safety regs, which to my mind is barmy as if nose in it would take longer to get the rig out.

However it may be that they know all doors face the same way so they can get in to save us in the event of us being indisposed in our little vans and they have to rescue us.
