Quote: Tomored wrote in post #16I don't think that would help. It isn't that the wheel which is still on the ground rotates per se; it's more a case of the van yawing using that tyre's contact patch as a pivot. And if your mover had a cross-actuation bar, it would apply the mover to the wheel you want to remove as well, making it difficult to get off.
Never having done it I am unsure if it can be done. If you have a mover then you could apply it, and lock the wheels with it, then jack up the caravan safely.
I wouldn't have any qualms about jacking the van up provided it was still attached to the car and the car had its handbrake on and was in gear. I don't see how it can go anywhere then. If the stabiliser is released there should be more than enough articulation in the hitch to allow one side of the van to be lifted sufficiently high for the flat tyre to clear the road. Releasing the stabiliser won't cause the hitch to jump off the ball - it just removes the effect of the friction pads.

please may suggest you undo the wheel nuts / bolts from their tight torque state to ease of turn but still holding wheel on, before jacking up
less chance of causing the caravan to slide off the jack while in mid air

Took the car for a much needed run this morning (only done 600 miles in the last 4 months)
And bought myself one of these

Hilka is a good make, they had them where I used to work. I must admit I would not want to use it without an axle stand to go with it but its still a lot less weight than my trolley jack and won't roll around in the cars boot.

Works for me too.
Nev, how will the jack be secure under the axle? The contact point is going to be very small.

I'm considering a pad to spread the load at position 1 or directly under the axle at position 2. but only until I can slide an axle stand under, nothing else would be done until its on a stand.

Um, not too sure about Pos. 1, Nev, surely you'd be lifting the van up against the suspension with the result that the jack would be at full extension whilst the wheel in question is still sitting on the ground. Just a thought although until actually trying it you'll never be sure.

Good point, Never thought of that looks like under the axle then.

What exactly is that horizontal black bar in front of the wheel with what looks like a burnt out candle sticking out of the right hand side?? Why haven't we got one of those?

Its a pipe from the kitchen sink on the other side of the van, the blue one above is the bathroom sink one, they should be joined together and the waste water comes out of the bottom bit.
Thats an old pic from shortly after I got the van, I have altered things a bit since then.

Quote: hob wrote in post #27I guess fairly obviously the less the jack has to extend the better, but there's barely any travel in the suspension. This is why the tyre sidewalls need some give in them and why it's a mistake to have them rock hard.

If there was lots of travel in the suspension you'd be putting quite a bit of load on the steadies and stressing the frame as you walked round inside every time you pitched.
When you're jacking a wheel it comes up almost as soon as the jack starts to take the weight.
