Help please! Canvas removal from pop top

Hi, please can someone help with a link or personal experience on how to remove the canvas from the pop top. I am going to reproof ours and would rather remove the canvas for this purpose. Whilst it is removed I am also getting it measured by a sail maker who will keep the measurements on record for me, incase I need a replacement

So please any personal experiences, helpful tips or just plain "don't do it" gratefully received

PLEASE remember i am not allowed on the other inferior place so cannot see links etc to them over there lol

It sounds like a lot of hassle to do something that can be achieved by spraying the fabric in-situ from the outside, Graham. I wouldn't remove mine.

I seem to recall that there's a particular waterproofing aerosol that you should use (from memory 303 Fabric Guard and NOT Fabsil).

No doubt Crow or SDA will be along shortly to give chapter and verse.

Yep 303 is correct I have read and heard though that it does'nt like grp So rather than risk my non diy skills at spraying which I just know i'd mess up (had to re word that lol) I thought i'd find a crow (not aimed at anyone) bar and wrecking hammer and take the canvas off.

I am already getting very at the thought of attempting either removing or spraying

Yes I sprayed mine 2 years ago and that seemed easier, This year with limited dexterity and mobility I brushed mine from the outside.. Good luck.

The only person I can remember removing the canvas was JnsE.
He was on this forum briefly but is a self employed Caravan Tecnichian
so probably has great demands on his time.
Shine the JnsE call searchlight.

For a self confessed non diy'er removing it would probably be a nightmare if you are worried about overspray you could mask it off in sections and do it like that or paint it on.

Hi crow this may be handy info

Agger what are your holiday destination plans this year?

am just wondering if the upper metal silver band needs removing or whether canvas can be slid out,
which would only leave the bottom rail that you undo from inside which would make the job so much easier , although sliding can be hard up high and would need some hands

will go and pop me top to see where the wider part is on rail and report back

am in eriba, having put the top up
when out side look up where the canvas meets the metal, look for a bulge in metal
then once spotted go inside and see it canvas near the bulge moves downward just a little bit,
if it does, you will need to remove the bottom rail first then pull canvas down while threading until a whole circle has been completed and you have the canvas in hands,
I don't know how easy it will be, but saves balancing on ladder loosening those screws
why o why didn't I see this before
good luck

Edit you might want to make a pencil mark on the metal where the triangle joins are for refitting lining up

Many thanks for all those replies as soon as I get home I'll raise the roof and see what is involved with either the removal or masking up methods
