Door lock

We have only had our Eriba a week, 2014 Troll 530, opened the door first time this weekend after getting it home and now the door will not stay closed as the bolt in the lock only comes out half way so not reaching the striker plate on the door frame, result being we can not keep the door shut or lock it. I have contacted the dealer and they are looking into it as they said this has never happened before. Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem?.

Hi Clive. There have been a few examples of sticking door locks on here but not on nearly new vans.

Here's a link to one thread which you may find interesting :- Door lock

We have a sticking door lock on our 2015 Troll. Seems to be due to the fact that the door has dropped. From the inside you sort of have to lift and push the lock at the same time. Doesn't seem to be a problem when trying to get in! That kind Mr. Frantone suggested a natty trick with a round ended knife that works as well. Good job he did or else on that occasion we'd all have been stuck inside shouting for help or making a spectacle of ourselves by climbing out of the back window! Just another little task to add to the list for the service with AL next month!

Thanks for your replies, I have looked at the links posted above whilst ours is a different lock I am guessing it is the same principle, I think something inside the lock has jammed or broken as the door closes fine just not will stay closed or lock, I am waiting for the dealer to get back to me as he is going to get one of his tech people to strip one down and have a look.

We also have a dodgy lock on our 2013 Troll.
Since new, at every service, we have complained about the difficulty of opening the door. The latch does not withdraw far enough to clear the stop (the catch attached to the door frame). This has been ground back to lessen its grip but it seems that the latch itself does not move far enough into the lock to clear it.
I have removed and dismantled the lock to find a way to get some extra movement but without success. I did manage to break something though because now the internal lever that operates the lock does not locate correctly and is rather loose. It feels as if it could flick up too easily thus locking us out if we do not have a key. It used to click reassuringly into the upper lock position!
The door itself has never looked level and the rubber seal around it is always being forced out. AL mechanicos suggested that regular applications of suitable lubricant would help the door to close without dislodging the seal. This has actually helped but I still feel that the door is poorly fitted.

Doesn't sound good for newish Eribas to have this problem, when you pay a premium price compared to WWB you would expect a higher standard of components.

Yes you would indeed, Taffy, but so much is produced in China nowadays - often unbeknownst to the end user - that many things are not as they once were. Not too long ago I purchased a 'Bridge' type camera (hob will know the camera I am referring to) and was pleasantly surprised to discover that it was manufactured in Japan. I shouldn't really have been surprised when all is said and done as it was a Japanese camera. However, my OH was so impressed with the flexibility of the camera that she too wanted one and so I treated her to the exact same model as a Christmas present. Guess what - on the bottom it boldly states that it was made in China and early photographs clearly demonstrated the difference in finished quality so back it went.

Unfortunately not had much feedback from the dealer, apart from it was alright when it left here, so looks as if I am going to have to sort it out myself, not a great introduction to Eriba for us as we never had anything like this happen on a new caravan before and only after a week of owning it.

Not sure that the dealer can just say that. If it isn't working, it isn't working. Whether it was or not when it left the dealer is immaterial. The dealer should be standing by a van he has just sold and be prepared to sort it out. I would be jumping up and down and shouting loudly.

Still waiting reply from the dealer, even after I sent photograph of how I am having to keep the door shut with tape. I may have to contact Trading Standards.

If you bought from a dealer did you not get any warranty ? I would have thought if you have then demand your rights for them to sort it or money back!
Might gee them up a little

As you said "purchased from a dealer" then it is clearly "not fit for purpose" therefore it is their duty, under UK consumer Law ,to rectify the fault in a reasonable time,at their expense .

Good luck, hope it's sorted soon :)

That's bad! Hope you get that sorted soon. Can you tell us which dealer, please?

Dealer is Adventure Leisure Vechiles in Cumbria and Gloucestershire, I am really disappointed not to have had a reply from them, I am going to wait until the end of the week and then have to look at legal action.
