I phoned AL when I first noticed it on our van which at the time was about 2 1/2 years old. I was told as it's out of its 2 year warranty it's not covered but they would look at it for a charge and probably have to fit a new door. I must admit they weren't that interested and not worth the 300 mile round trip to take it down.

Update on this.... AL agreed, without question, after seeing photos to replace the locker door under warranty and it's to be fitted at the end of the month, whilst the van is serviced and has its water ingress test. So, we are happy with the outcome. I am going to go over the van with a fine tooth comb before going down there though, to make sure we have no outstanding issues. We have had a few problems with our van but, fair play to them, AL have been very good in sorting them out and have shared our frustration at the things they can't really properly solve, like the bathroom door.
Going to spend a long weekend whilst we are down there. Looking forward to our first outing of the season!

Nice to hear of a dealer helping their customers...
It really shouldn't be an exceptional event. It should be the norm.
Isn't it what you've got every reason to expect?

I have to agree totally with Pepé's sentiment. But to be totally fare to AL, despite the disappointment we have experienced with the internal build quality of our Triton which has to be Hymer's ultimate responsibility, they (AL) have been accommodating and helpful all along the way.
I appreciate this might not be others experience, however I can only speak as I find.

However...
It's undoubtedly a fact that if there is one common factor in many of these sagas (and many of them are sagas, like Clive's door lock experience with ALV), it's that the company or dealer or whoever simply do not keep people properly informed.
It's a bit like the airport lounge scenario. What drives people nuts is not necessarily that the plane is late, or that it's taken off from somewhere else with a mechanic hanging off the wing, but that nobody tells them what's going on. If someone came over the Tannoy every ten minutes and updated all those waiting whether there had been any developments or not then people's tempers would become much less frayed.
If nothing has changed, tell them, and then say you'll update them again in another ten minutes irrespective of what's happened.
People hate being left in the dark. They assume, not unreasonably, that those in charge simply don't care.
There is no reason that the customers of AL, or ALV or anyone else should be having to make umpteen telephone calls or send umpteen e-mails to find out what's going on.
The onus is on the company to keep the punter informed.
It's as simple as that.

I do not think you will find any wood in there, mine didn't, slide the fuzzy stuff around to reveal a screw, remove screw, slide fuzzy stuff all the way round to the other side remove screw, bottom trim ca now be removed, there might be a screw at the bottom cannot remember, the inside is a slab of 25mm thick polystrene when i undid mine about half a ltr of water poured out, bit of a fiddle sliding the fuzzy stuff but easy to do.
So, wood or no wood, our Triton visited AL last Friday for it service and refit of brand new gas locker door so I am happy, though the fungi are not. Hopefully that will be the end of my mushroom farming experience.
However on cleaning the Van before taking it out I did notice that the door appeared to be gaping at the top and losing it ability to seal properly, I mentioned this to Phil Lewis on arrival along with the fact that the installed smoke alarm for some reason ceased to work when the battery was replaced. Both were fixed. A new smoke alarm was installed and when asked what they had done to the door to make it fit better and insure the seal was tight, Phil said "you don't want to know, its not pretty" I left it at that.....................

Quote: Clippie wrote in post #27Reminds me of a story I heard about the Citroen factory in Paris where the 2CV was made. They actively discouraged factory visits as at a time when robots were being used to assemble cars on modern production lines, the workers there were making doors fit by bending them over their knees. My guess is that a similar approach was being taken.

Pleased to hear that the fungus problem has been resolved to your satisfaction and it's good to hear of first class customer service from AL. Too many people are quick to complain but slow to give praise where it is due.

Good news.
I can also mention good service from Phil at AL. Yesterday evening I emailed a description and picture of my wardrobe frame problem and he replied in a most helpful manner and very promptly too.
That's the way to do it!
