Triton 430 dimensions question

I don't have access to our Triton 430 which is in storage at the moment so I wonder if some kind bod who has their van parked outside could pop out and do a quick measurement for me? I'm after the distance between the two bulkheads where the front table would go should a further bed be required. The accompanying picture should clarify what I'm after. The reason is that I'm contemplating buying a Milenco Cargo Bar the small one of which is 50 - 91cm long to span across this area. Triton 430.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)

On my 2006 430 the distance from under seat bench to under seat bench is 770mm however on top of each is a lift up piece of ply to allow access distance between edges of these is 605mm

The 430 triton along with all other models was revamped in 2009 so may be slightly different?

Thanks, Nev. Both measurements would suffice for a cargo bar of 55cm length although the latter would obviously span between the two bulkheads and not the lip. I want to place things forward of the door to bring up the nose weight and obviously don't want things sliding around during the journey.

I see what you mean, I work on the principle that if you brake hard things slide forward, the only way I can think of for things to move backwards would be under heavy acceleration.

But I may be wrong there?

Clarification for Nev's sake. Not sure if this is the case with your old Jalopy , but with our Triton 430 there is no specific stowage facility for the table and as someone once posted, the constant vibration that the table receives whilst the van is in motion could/would open the possibility for the securing bracket on the forward bulkhead working lose. Yes it is spelt with a single 'o' - I checked with Google.

So - my intention is to kill two birds with one stone by standing and resting the table against the forward bulkhead with sufficient soft packing to ensure that the table doesn't rub against the securing rail whilst at the same time placing a few other objects in the space between the two forward seating banks. This will add weight to the hitch which is difficult to achieve (witness recent posts regarding the transporting of cycles up front) even with 2 gas bottles in the front locker. The maximum and therefore recommended hitch weight for the 2013 Triton 430 is 100kg and whilst the van has always been 100% stable during towing I also want to take advantage of the increased towball allowance of 88kg with the new car. In short - hills or no hills all up front is going to stay in place with the use of a simple and cheap bar.

Gogle is wrong.

It's loose.

That's interesting. I wonder why the maximum towbar weight has been increased by 33% on the newer models? Is that with the standard 1000Kg or uprated 1200Kg axle I wonder?

Also, I'm still unsure why the maximum permissible drawbar weight is the recommended weight. As I said in my bike rack thread, that's what Audi say for my car but it all sounds counter-intuitive to me as I'd have assumed that a maximum figure was to be avoided and that something at around 75% of the maximum would have allowed margin for error and therefore been safer.

Clearly this is incorrect, but can anyone explain why?

Our table, the huge six-person model, travels quite happily face down on the carpet on the floor of the van. This was what Steve at AL told me to do when I collected the van from them back in 2011.

Does this PDF from High Command shed any light, Mr C?

It certainly does.

I hadn't thought that the noseweight would reduce during towing, so all is now clear. What an interesting article.

Many thanks, Pete.

I recently bought a pair of clamps, a flat metal bar with right angled movable clamping arms, rather like a large old fashioned adjustable spanner, with a trigger grip, for repairing some cupboard doors, I also used them to secure a panel by in essence using them back to front, i.e. turning one clamp around and making them push away from each other rather than squeezing together, I hope you are following me.They will make ideal cargo bars in the position you are talking about. It's amazing how reading this forum has prompted me to adapt and adopt solutions for my troll.

This is a great forum.
