Mrs P sat in the co-pilot's seat looking radiant, something she still manages to do when she isn't puce with rage.

So how does that work ? Is it just a length of coax running inside skin of van ?

Yes, from there on its up to you if you use it and how you wire up the rest, I presume you are meant to plug an antenna in through the locker door one end and plug the telly into the rear locker the other end?

I found it by accident ................. don't use mine though.

On the subject of tv receptions, after 7yrs with our Eriba we have discovered that if our mobile phone or tablet is too near the tv it interferes with the reception. I can't believe how much time Mark has wasted fiddling about with the aerial trying to get a good reception when all the time it was the dam phone causing the problem.

Big decision today. Our son who is a whizz at electrics and electronics had a had good old look with me at the bits and pieces and the inside/outside the van. He thinks he can figure it out, I would have to to fit the unit outside and also a socket inside. He was a bit puzzled where the booster 12v connections would be, but in the end as he reckoned it was going to be a morning's work for him, I have excused him on the basis of his family committments with two active sons demanding wife and their things. Also he travels widely in the UK with his job, Faslain, Barrow, Bristol, Weymouth, Plymouth.

I intend to get a mobile guy to sort out the problem with the burner, so as both are not urgent jobs, we can still go away and use her happily, I will ask him when and how much as a job in total.

Just wondering - given that in the old days we just stuck a bit of coat-hanger in the socket on the B&W TV - would it work to run a few loops of wire round the pop-top skirt and feed to a signal booster thingy or is that too simple for FeeView signals?

In most cases I'm afraid its not that simple, signal frequencies have changed, televisions have changed to the extent where you need a decoder of some sort to even see the results of a signal even if you can get it.

Most campsites are out in the country and often not too near the local transmitter, that and a reluctance to spend large amounts of money on infrastructure in a world where lots of people have turned to satellite receivers means houses either have a decent sized antenna up high or a satellite dish to get their tv.

My local area is very limited freesat wise as its midway between 3 big transmitters and is supplied by a very small booster mast with a limited number of channels split between tv and radio.

So yes certainly for tv the "coathanger" type days are probably over.
