New Driver Plate
Some time soonish I hope to become the owner of a new-to-me Eriba Puck L of some sort. That will probably come from AL.
Now, I don't know about you, but if I'm in a car and I come across a caravan being towed I assume the driver has some idea what they're doing.
The last time I drove with a trailer I was on a Massey 175 with a 4 wheeler stacked high with straw bales - that must have been1968/9.
Those of you who have been to AL's new premises will know that the exit onto either the dual carriageway or the roundabout is a bit exciting.
So, there I am - never towed a van, first time out, urban combat driving standards all round, how do I communicate to the world that I really am not too clever about this?
Got to thinking that really there should be some equivalent of a P plate that indicates to the world that you are a new caravan driver - an N plate or something just to let the world know that you are not Chairman of the Caravan Club and so may be prone to a few errors at first. A big notice in the rear window should do it...............
Anyhoo, figuring it is better than nothing I bought a pair of P plates in Oxfam shop in Devizes this morning - magnetic so they'll stick to the metal skin of the van....... - oh well, string is good
Perhaps I'll call Sally Traffic and tell so that Radio 2 listeners at least will know the roads are unsafe for a while.

I think most of us were just thrown in at the deep end.
By the time you get home you'll be an experienced caravan tower and perfectly capable of going anywhere with your Puck.

Both of the major clubs do towing courses, I did the Caravan Club one as it was local and the right date.
I was in the same situation as you and would recommend it, They supply the Van by the way. I followed it with a few hours on the local car park practising reversing.
Nae bother.
Have fun with your Puck..

Haven't been to the new AL place yet. I hadn't towed for 40 years but managed OK. Good luck.
Not sure other drivers could give a toss about a P plate these days.

Not sure most of them would even know what a P plate was.

I volunteered because it was a good wheeze and because it meant the odd day crashing and banging along country lanes in the summer instead of digging holes
Just go for it.
It's a doddle.
