On the hunt for my ideal Eriba!

Hi and thank you for the welcomes!
I am just beginning my search for an Eriba and wonder if any of you have advice on good build years and models to look at or avoid?
My criteria is: good condition, 3 sleeping places......2 for big dog, 1 for me. Toilet and basin with shower attachment ( a must).
Any info / tips gratefully received. I live in France, have a UK Subaru Forester 2005 model (XT Turbo), think that Holland may be a great place to look for my Eriba!
Thanks!
Lorraine

Hello, Lorraine. I live in France. Where are you? Last November we bought our Triton which has the layout you are looking for on le bon coin. Ours is from 1997 and seems to be in good shape. Everything works and we love her. You won't have to go to Holland. There are thousands of Eribas in France.

Hi, I live in Chamonix, with my mahoosive dog Hamish. I saw my first Eriba in the flesh the other day! Any tips on where to look for an Eriba in France?
Where do you live? Xx

Chamonix! Beautiful. I'm in Brittany on the coast about half way between Roscoff and St malo. You'll need an awning for Hamish LOL People use their Eribas for skiing too! We see a lot of them on the roads. Yesterday, we went to near Rennes and saw about 10 going there and back. Also, join the French Eriba forum. They're super friendly and will let you know if there's one available. It's always good to get a recommendation.
http://www.passion-eriba.org/forum They're organising a get-together for next year so hurry up and find your pride and joy!!
We see really old ones whizzing about.
Ours is 1997 and was always kept indoors. We rent a "boxe" in a big facility for about 250E a year. It means that there are no "closed in" smells and we can leave the pop top up and the windows just open so the air can circulate.
You'll find people on the forum close to you - someone might volunteer to visit a van with you to help you check out ll the vital points. Good luck with your quest.
Just to add that we paid 7200E for our betty.Seemed to be a decent price.

Thanks so much for all the info! I checked out Le Boncoin, lots of them on there! Despite Hamish weighing 65kg, he doesn't need lots of room, but I agree an awning or tent would be advisable! He snores like a pig! The 'boxe' is a great idea for 250 euro per year. I have a garage, but not if enough for an Eriba.
Again, thanks so much for the info and I will definitely check out the links.
Xx
PS: With a name like Islay, are you Scottish? I come from Glasgow! Xx

I think you should really try to test the difference between a fixed bed & one made up from the seats, the fixed bed is so comfy! it's designed & built to be a bed whereas the seats are seats! also with the fixed bed the under storage is great. with a decent awning & pop up inner tent makes a good extra sleeping area.

We have had four Eribas all with beds made from the seats. Some foam and some sprung. We have always found them comfortable which, of course, is a personal and subjective judgement. However the versatility of the layouts is far more attractive to us than a fixed bed.
We have good sized singles or a massive double with lounging available when the beds are not made and seating for 6 to dine.
Some owners use mattress toppers to make the seats more comfortable.

In a large caravan, fixed beds make sense but in a small one like an Eriba (any model), for me at least, they represent a waste of valuable space during the daylight hours.
With a non-fixed bed layout, you have a versatility denied by a fixed bed in that you can leave the bed made up should you so wish, as we do when we have the awning up, or if staying somewhere for a couple of nights only, make the beds up each night. This takes but a couple of minutes and is no hardship.
We use a couple of Duvalays (which have built-in memory foam mattress toppers) and now when on short stays compromise by leaving one side of the bed made up (with the Duvalays and pillows laid on top) and the other side of the bed folded back to allow us to use the table and one side of the seating area. Reverting to the sleeping layout takes little effort.
Our ideal Eriba, I suppose, would have a longitudinal bed and a dinette so it would have to be a Troll 540 - but as we manage fine with what we already have, there's no real stimulus to change.

As Aaron has raised it, a 540 seems an admirable choice. I bought mine in Holland last year and we (2 of us) use it with the bed made up permanently (using a memory foam mattress topper giving an extremely comfortable bed) leaving the front dinette for meals and games of Cribbage when we aren't sitting outside. With a mahoosive dog, the slightly larger 540 might be something worth looking at..
