Booking a site

I sometimes wonder how campsite owners make a living

I've had some who after several calls still fail to answer the phone

I even found one that didn't take phone bookings

I had one this week who when I finally managed to get him on his mobile told me to email the site ...............4 days ago still no reply and not answering the phone

Is it just me? or do others have the same problems?

Am I doing something wrong?

Rant over............ time for a drink

Not just campsites. I've been trying to find a gardener for my Dad. Rang several people who were advertising in the local mag. Some didn't answer, one told me he was too busy to take on new customers (so why advertise) and one said he didn't do gardens but agreed that's what his ad said and admitted it was a bit confusing'
I gave up, Dad's garden still needs a gardener. I need a long lie down before I start looking again.

Hi Julie
Do you know about Streetlife.com..its a network for local communities. In our local area, they are always asking for handymen, gardeners etc and have a great response...give them a go. Link below

😀😀😀 I understand completely. Have had many strange and stilted conversations with campsite owners..... Often, they are fine on arrival, it's just that initial phone call....

Just yesterday here at Ferry Meadows we were talking to a couple who arrived at a CS to be told that it had been closed. Their booking had been made some months earlier and confirmed by email but the owner had neglected to check and inform them that he was in the process of selling!

I think it's true of many business these days, they just don't seem to be able to cope with modern life or communication. Seems odd to me, literally turning away business for the sake of a phone call or checking an email.

I had real trouble getting somebody to service my Eriba recently, no replies to emails, left phone messages without getting called back and so on. Can only assume they are already dripping in cash if they can turn business away like that.

As for gardeners, don't get me started.

Used UK Campsites to find an adult only site for a few days in August, after our daughter's wedding and before a Hash event.
No problem, found Plough Lane at Chippenham and booked over the phone. Aiming to revisit Castle Combe.

+ 1 for 'Plough Lane' - some time since we were there - we are quite local, and went because it was convenient for a visit to a friend in Chippenham :). The site is very well maintained - we always remember the 'strict' interrogation we had to check that 'no children ' were about to be smuggled into the site ! ! Very amusing :) We did enjoy our brief visit here :)

Never did get a reply

I was looking for a stop on the way to and from the forum meet ............. in the end I gave up and will probably stop in a layby somewhere and make a cup of tea.

Ah well it will save me 5 nights at £20.00 a night
