Familia roof vent !!

I have recently bought a 2012 Familia 310 with a fixed bed. It has what appears to be a roof vent, there is a vent like cover on the inside and a Perspex cover outside on the roof . My question is, is this meant to open up on the roof as mine appears to be fixed ? Doesn't seem to do anything as it is !! Thanks , Peter !

I've a notion that Lowdhams fitted roof vents to all their new Eribas at one time - presumably to comply with some UK regulations ? I've no idea if they are designed to open or not - but think it's just a vent ?

Automotive Leisure customised a few Eribas in 2014, although the sky light could be opened. Skylights in the roof have never been an official modification from the Hymer factory.

Or you may mean the air vent over the bed space on the lower roof? This does not open up, it is only an air vent and nothing more.

The external perspex vent allows air circulate into the van over the sleeping area, there is no provision to close it. When you next wash the roof you will notice that the plastic dome is not flush to the roof and there is a gap allowing the air to get in the van.

We have the same vent on our 430 and despite multiple washes and heavy rain (incl. storms and high winds) no water has ever entered into the interior of the van through this vent.

If you mean a vent like this one...

...the upstand section onto which the mushroom cap clips is sealed to the fibreglass roof so rainwater can't get in.

Ease out the internal trim and have a look up inside. You'll see how it works.

Which part do you mean? The cap comes off the upstand (you can see the clips in that photograph), but I'd be a bit circumspect in attempting it. The plastic tends to go brittle with age, and you don't find out how brittle it's got until it's too late.

Do you want to clean the exterior surfaces or the interior ones?

You can clean virtually everything visible from the outside without taking it to bits, and if you need to clean the inside of the cap you can get at it by gently easing out the interior trim. It's a push fit.
