Gaslow refillable cylinders

Hi everyone,
Has anyone had the Gaslow refillable cylinder filling nozzle fitted into the bodywork/A-frame of their Eriba?
I ask because I have purchased a twin-cylinder system from Gaslow online but after a bit of a disaster at the refilling station (where I got rather a lot of ice-cold gas all over my hands!) I would like to have the filler nozzle adaptor actually built into my Eriba. I have spoken to Phil (service) at AL and he has told me that he has seen Gaslow nozzles installed into the metal checkerplate on the A frame of Eriba's but that they cannot do it for me as they are not gas authorised...So if anyone has had such work undertaken (on our specialist little vans) I would be VERY grateful to hear from you. Many thanks, Steve

I seldom use gas, Steve, as I always use sites with EHU (my current Calorlite propane bottle is now over four years old) but I bet there are quite a few members who would be interested in the economics of going refillable.

Can you do a breakdown of the costs as compared with, say, exchange bottles of Calor gas please?

Also, any pictures of the kit you need to use your system would be useful.

Going at a tangent, but your remark about AL not being gas-authorised begs the question how do they service the gas system on an Eriba when it goes to them for a service?

Like Aaron I am curious why you fitted this kit? It seems an expensive way of having gas in the van, I bought my Triton just under 3 years ago with no gas cylinder in it.
I added a 6 Kg propane single cylinder which is still in use, I understand an exchange full one is about 20 quid when I need one?

Maybe you use it a lot in the winter?

My guess is that they don't want to be bothered with the work.

It's either that or the bloke mentioned in the first sentence here has fallen down a hole.

I fitted a Gaslow kit in our Hymer motorhome some years ago and had it verified (or certified?) by a Gaslow agent. It was a very convenient way to take advantage of cheap gas prices by topping up as and when we wanted whenever out on the road. I considered it for an Eriba but decided against it as taking the Eriba to a garage when gas was needed seemed to be adding an extra degree of difficulty. As it happens we are using so little gas these days that it would take years to recoup the initial cost.

I've just taken a couple of pictures on my smartphone and then tried to log into eribafolk on my phone but despite entering 20+ different 'catchpa's' in all lower case, all upper case and a mixture of the both it keeps telling me that I'm entering the wrong code - I'm NOT! I'm sending this on home laptop which, fortunately, doesn't ask for catchpa's.
I believe the cost of gas used via the Gaslow refillable system is about half that of getting cylinders exchanged. I'm new to the world of caravanning (I only collected my new Eriba from Germany in May) and so I did a lot of reading and came to the conclusion that I would use quite a bit of gas because I plan to go away for 10 or so days a month pretty much every month of the year. So even though I have the ultraheat upgrade I thought I would be using quite a bit of gas when, for example, I'm on the West coast of Scotland in December for 10 days. I might, of course, be wrong but I plan to keep the van and the gas system so hopefully the cost will level out over the years.
In answer to the member who thought it a faff to have to take the Eriba to the fuel station forecourt to fill up: I have to say that I think that is the easiest bit of the system! It's no different to pulling up at the diesel (petrol) pump with Eriba attached on a long journey except, of course, that you are pulling alongside the gas pump. The difficulty I'm having is that the filler nozzle is loose inside the front locker when it should be rigidly installed so when I filled up previously I didn't quite get the connectionn made perfectly and so I ended up with quite some cold gas on my hands! I've decided to have the filler installed into the metal hatched plate on the A frame and I'm going to ask Rhino installs to do it as they are an approved Gaslow installer.
Finally, I went for the Gaslow system because they have quite a good advertising tagline about how their system is as safe as a system can be. Lovely. What is not so good is the instructions they send you for installing and connecting the cylinders - there are no instructions! So you end up enlarging the pictures on their website to try and undertake a home install and that is not good, not good at all.

Just to clear up a couple of issues raised in msg #1 & 3.

Msg#1: they (AL) cannot do it for me as they are not gas authorised

Msg# 3:Going at a tangent, but your remark about AL not being gas-authorised begs the question how do they service the gas system on an Eriba when it goes to them for a service?

AL are not authorised to install Gaslow systems but are obviously authorised to service caravan gas installations.

All Gaslow installers are authorised by Gaslow to install their products for which a yearly fee is paid. So unless a dealer can be sure of installing a large number of systems I guess the outlay involved is not worth it if you only expect to install a few systems a year.

Personally I feel Gaslow systems are more beneficial to the motorhomer than the caravanner unless, as pianosteve says, he expects to spend half the year touring and by the sound of it probably not too much time on hookups.

When I had a motorhome I looked into Gaslow systems and thought a dual bottle system with one Gaslow bottle and one Calor Gas bottle would be ideal in this country as you can always find a calor dealer but depending where you are the refilling stations may be few and far between.

Calor Gas make a big noise about how they check every gas bottle ( faulty valves, damage to cyclinder etc). So you assume that your Calor Gas bottle is safe to use. Question, who checks that the Gaslow bottle, that you now own, is safe to use. OK, the Gaslow cyclinders don't get/suffer the handling issues that Calor bottles get but they may 'degrade' internally over time. So do Gaslow provide any guidelines as to how often the cylinders should be internally inspected and pressure tested by a Gaslow authorised inspector of cylinders?
