Today I have been mostly cleaning the Herzim strip

As we are heading off to France again on Thursday, I thought I'd prep the van and carry out any necessary maintenance before we go.

This time I found that all the white Herzim strip was looking decidedly nasty with the upper edge of the waistline strip being the worst affected as usual.

So, for the benefit of new members who may not have encountered this problem before, here is how to get the plastic back to a clean and smart condition.

The two pictures show before and after shots of the Herzim around the external under-bed locker door. As you can see, the plastic in the first picture is covered with a dirty and cracked, sticky varnish-like deposit which I think is caused by exposure to UV light. The second shows the strip after cleaning.

The best way that I have found to remove the muck is by rubbing it with a cloth dipped in methylated spirits. This morning I tried scrubbing the deposits with an old toothbrush but it didn't really help.

A couple of years ago I started a thread on this topic detailing the experiments with different products that led me to recommend meths for this purpose. If interested, here is a link: Cleaning herzim strip

Someone is trying to tell me something!

After a whole day slaving in the sun yesterday prettifying the Eriba, look what I found stuck to the door this morning.

It could have been worse. The herds of incontinent sea gulls that regularly overfly us could have been feeling vindictive.

It was an earlier design for Eribas up until about 2004 I believe

There are lots of sexy vents at the bottom of the door too making 24 in total but we've never been bothered by draughts even in the coldest weather. The vents are beautifully formed in the outer skin and there's an insect mesh on the inside.

I think the bird poo was a diversion Mr Calder just wanted to show us how deep the shine is on his Eriba body work.
