We are shortly (tomorrow) to embark on our ferry crossing to France Plymouth to Roscoff. We have booked to stay at a site which offered up to 20% saving on Brittany Ferries.
We have also purchased Camping Cheques in the form of a credit card as the second site we are staying at accepts them. Using the cheques as payment it will save us 8.80 euros a night against paying cash.
When I received the card there was a covering letter thanking us for buying them and informing us of the many discounts you could get by using camping cheques as payment for ferry crossings including Caravan goes free with Brittany Ferries !.
For future reference

We really like that crossing and with a day cabin we can snooze happily for a few hours, shower, brew up, raid the free fridge and arrive refreshed and ready to drive. Our boys liked them too, they usually have some form of games console, tv, dvd player- the works makes the whole thing an enjoyable part of the holiday .

Only ever used to the overnight Plymouth/Santander and that was a mini cruise on a very calm crossing.

Plymouth - Roscoff never again, worst crossing I have ever been on, they ended up closing the duty free and bars as the crew were sea sick as well. The only time I have ever wanted to die .It didn't help when I found out that the sick bag I was holding for my then 4 year old son had a hole in the bottom and I ended up covered.

Well It doesn't matter which ferry you are on if you experience bad weather which you obviously did. Think they have better quality sick bags these days

There are 2 relatively new ferries doing that route now. It's true that the old boat made everyone sick!

Know what you mean Mike and we feel for you.

When we did it in '95 with all the kids everyone on board was sick, including the crew. One exception was out youngest, then only 6, who spent the whole crossing jumping about in the kiddies play area.

Small boat, two toilet areas (one male, one female), deck on lock down because of the weather. I held it in for four hours and just when I hoped the worse was over there was an announcement from the captain to say we would be 2 hours late docking in Plymouth because of the weather. That finally did it for me.

I wonder if we were on the same crossing?

The two eldest children decided that they would not come with us again so stayed at home for future trips.

We have done that crossing once or twice since and as Islay says, they use bigger ferries nowardays.

No we were out on deck even though the weather was appalling, it was actually the return journey from Roscoff to Plymouth. At one point the plastic chair I was sat on with my son on my knee, slipped away and I went hurtling across the deck on my back still holding my son. Luckily, as I was sliding towards the gap at floor level in the railings that allows water to drain off deck a chair slid across and I managed to jam it with my feet into the gap otherwise I was heading for a meeting with Davey Jones. I had managed to push my son over to one side so that he would have been saved by the railings before the chair saved me. It was amazing the number of people on deck who were also suffering as was who managed to react and quickly come to drag us away before resuming their discussion with George and Huey
My son and his wife did that crossing in September and had no problems so in view of that and change of vessel I may consider again when we are next heading for Western Brittany

Usually there are signs telling people not to go out on deck in bad weather. I have seen people telling their children to go out and play when the signs are lit!!! People......
