Foam seats are a standard fitting and sprung seats are a cost option.

Sprung seats throughout use about 15kg of payload.

We've always had sprung, not by choice, but because they were already fitted, so we can't really make comparative assessment. One has to assume that if they cost more and are worth the extra weight, the sprung versions must be better. But that's logic, not necessarily reality.

I do know that on both our Trolls you could feel the springs through the upholstery topping when you ran your hand over the surface but it didn't seem to affect seated or sleeping comfort.

Hi we too have a 542, the layout of which seems to be maligned by many. We swapped a 530 FB and always loved the FB as we could both use the front dinette and my wife & I both read & she's an early to bed person. I too am tall and only just fitted across the 530 van and like many others it was a pain crawling over each other. I'm having bespoke sprung Duvalay mattresses made as foam isn't comfy enough on longer trips, special motorhome-and-caravan-show offer.

We both love the fixed bed, no packing it away and getting it out again. A pop-air awning provides additional space for that lost with the bed.

Yes, we have sprung seats throughout in our present 530 and would have liked them for the new 540. However, according to the brochure the front ones are available only for the 418, 530, 535 and 550, i.e. vans with a double seat front dinette at a cost of £108 or thereabouts. We should, however have them in the rear seats. I don't know if that was always the case or whether it's a new thing.

What you are saying about not available on the front unless it has double seats would tie in with my van. I wanted comfort cushions front seating on my 2017 fixed bed 430, so as Lowdhams could not figure out the correct code they entered the sprung upholstery code on the initial order. They then managed to find the code before build date and entered it, forgetting to cancel the sprung code.
I ended up with sprung rear fixed bed, high back comfort cushions to the front, but not sprung.

Both our '01 and '05 540's had sprung rear bench cushions and foam bench seat backs, which became bed cushions if you set up a double. All the front dinette cushions were foam.

So maybe sprung seats on the 540/542/430 front dinettes have never been available.
