A Frame Cycle Rack

Hi all,
I'm planning a tour of Europe next year and I'm thinking of getting 2 bike cycle rack to fit my 2015 Troll 530. I do have cycle racks for the roof of my car but not great for the old back and will probably cost more for the ferry/train etc?
So looking at either a rear bike rack or a front A frame version. Having checked AL, they only seem to offer the A frame rack and it comes in at a whopping £499 I can't see the make but I have checked online and can find a Thule Xpress 2-Bike for £59.99......all I would need to do is get my local dealer to add the towball when they do my service.
I have searched the forum but any advice on front v back cycle rack, AL v local dealer and whether my concerns about the ferry/train being more expensive are right?
Thanks in advance
Tony

Thanks both,
I had seen it and very useful but I'm not the most 'confident' DIY'er. That being said I will take a closer look.
Thanks

I fitted one on my Troll. Got a local engineering company to manufacture the Bracket (cost £15.00) all the other parts just bolt together simples.

Thanks.... I expect it isn't as complicated as I fear. I do have a local blacksmith who may be able to help.
Appreciate all your guidance. Tony

An interesting front mounting for the Thule bike carrier.

Looks a sturdy bit of kit but must add quite a bit to the nose weight even before bikes are added ?in days of yore when we were younger & much much fitter ,we used to make up the bed,put on old blanket ontop.put the bikes as far forward(to be near the axle as poss) then secure them.bit lumpy to lay on @ nite! but otherwise no problem.dave

Look at the Maypole cycle carrier £41.50, a plate fits behind the tow ball fitting and the rack clamps to it. Can't be used with a swan neck. It will take 2 bikes, I use mine when towing my Troll. A benefit is that the plate supplied also acts as a sturdy bumper plate. I have also made my own backboard light plate that hooks onto the arms so I can carry my bikes legally when not towing.

Yes, you're right well spotted it's the BC2040, not 2030.

Unfortunately have a swan neck but looks good. Think you meant the BC2040 model

Colin,
I'm trying to work out why it cannot be used on a swan-neck. The ball profile is the same, it is the neck length that differs in being longer. If it was shorter I could see a problem, but not when longer.

Hi, the original one I quoted can as it fits on the ball, but I quoted the wrong ref, sorry, it's the bc2040 one that fits to the plate provided. The 2030 model is either caravan or bike rack but not both.
