to carry on rallying next year need a device to charge the netbook from 12v battery, normally known as an inverter
the ???????????????????????????????? question

which wave or inverter is safe for netbooks / computers... really don't know, if can suggest that would be super..

to repay the enabling
we just got some preowned Stanley mugs and can recommend them, keep tea warm for an hour, keeps hand warm from outer shell if slot hand through under handle.
if lift the drink hole before tighten up after making cuppa it stops air getting trapped..

many thanks

Can you not just use a usb cable to charge your netbook, run off a 12v adapter in your accessory socket? We use one for tablet, satnav and phone.

...need a device to charge the netbook from 12v battery...
What voltage does your netbook need to charge its battery?

If you're suggesting using an inverter I'd guess that it's more than 12V DC. If that is the case, using the inverter to convert 12V DC from the caravan battery to 230V AC simply to be able to plug the netbook's existing battery charger in is a pretty inefficient (and unnecessarily expensive) way of doing it.

What I reckon you need is a DC-DC step-up converter similar to this one.

Use the drop-down above the description to find the one with the correct output. If there isn't one, then try Googling '12V DC-DC step-up converter' followed by the required output voltage.

The 12V from your van battery is about as clean a supply as it's possible to get, so as long as you don't dirty it by overcomplicating the issue you should be fine.

If by any chance your netbook needs less than 12V to charge, the solution is simpler still. Stepping voltage down is a piece of cake.

USB isn't the right kind of cable to be using for this kind of application. It's designed to work to an industry standard 5V DC, and although the current it carries varies depending on what device is being charged, it's always fairly small.

CBE do a dual USB socket, like this one..

They connect to a 12V supply and you should be able to find one to colour match your existing CBE or Berker sockets.

They're only 5V output. A Netbook's going to need at least 10.8V and probably at a larger amperage to charge its battery.

USB is the wrong thing to charge a laptop.

Oops - I stand connected and should have read the OP more thoroughly .

many thanks for all the replies,
perhaps better add more information
its 19volts according to the charger, also surprised at that amount, would prefer to use the existing netbook charger..

the converter not sure how would wire to connect to the netbook

extra info the eribas got solar on roof and a 12v gel battery, we already run a 300watt inverter which is somehow wired to recharge battery at least that's what seems to happen we run it for 8 hours without the battery going low for 240v bright lights and running a 221 sewing machine but it must be wrong wave for the netbook, the charger sings but doesn't charge, and the telly in home the speakers buzz loudly, (tried during a power cut they were switching the mains cable in street)
the inverter does not mention which wave it is, the solars and inverter were fitted before we got the eriba..

have found these

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009...=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01F...K6QYGF70NS&th=1

but not sure which way to go, any opinions??
thanks again
