It seems to me its not a question of checking the pitch before you leave? but rather checking it when you arrive?

Previous trip was Thetford forest, I sat out one evening with a bottle of pink champers and looked down, something was glittering in the sunlight between my feet, closer inspection revealed the top of a tent peg which I pulled out and binned............ should have paid more attention

I think it's also easy to overlook the "duties" of the wardens, they do a fantastic job on all our behalves. The trouble is when they are busy sweeping the gravelled hard standings and checking for "debris" they are often under pressure due to early arrivals ie before 12.00. Lots of sites now have a 12.00 opening time with departures often before 10.00. Some sites are fully barrier controlled and some are more relaxed but you usually have to book in on arrival.

I can only say I adhered to this whenever I could BUT there are times when due to unforseen circumstances (Mrs Agger's pancreatitis) you just have to arrive early! For those that don't remember we were at Tintagel, Jen was taken ill, we were offered an ambulance but I drove her to Barnstaple (as we were moving to Damage Barton the next day) I saw her admitted to hospital then drove back to Tintagel. Early the next morning I packed up, wrote an apology in the visitors book! for my late return the night before, then set of to Damge Barton.

On arrival (early) I explained my predicament and was treated exceptionally by ALL the staff there. Jen spent 9 days in Barnstaple, and once better we spent another few days on site, then returned to Gloucester. A few weeks later Jen had her gall bladder out. I thanked ALL those both on site and on here for their concern.

I think she's better cos she's MOANING!!!

It should be in ALL our interests to let wardens carry out their duties for the benefit of ALL

Not having a lot of luck with tyres recently, after the tent peg problem that started this topic.

Three new tyres for the van last year.............. one of which just got took off the van with a dirty great wood screw through the tread....... scrap after 1200
miles on the van new one coming Monday

Ah well such is life altogether thats 6 new tyres in 18 months.

Looks like we're having a bit of a do with tyres as well.

You might remember that a few years ago we had some "sudden" tread wear on the door side tyre of the Eriba. I check the tyres regularly and both tyres were good when we left home but 1000 miles later and there was cause for concern.

Well, it's happened again but this time it's the non-door side. Having purchased 3 new tyres for the start of the 2015 season, I've just noticed rapid tyre wear on that tyre. yet to get down there and look more thoroughly but like the last time it's uneven wear to the outside of the tyre.

Admittedly we've put them through some mileage yet to be calculated but probably 15,000, but it's the sudden wear that gets me and on different sides of the van. Since we've owned it we've always loaded the van in the same way.

Weak axle rubbers? Hope not but if so it'll be cheaper to keep buying a tyre or two every few years.

Check wheel nuts are all tight and the suspension struts are OK i.e. not bent or leaking oil ........ that's all I can think of.

Full running gear service before the last occasion and just before we left this year.
