Hi to everyone
We are lifelong tent campers and loved our Outwell Bear Lake until my dodgy hips made the pegging out too painful. A caravan seemed the solution and I instantly fell for Eribas but sadly my wife didn't get it and wanted to buy an all-singing & dancing block of cheese from Eldis. Gladly a couple of visits to AL and the Caravan show changed her mind, along with much whispering in her ear, and she became a total convert.
We ordered a Troll from AL after some really helpful discussions with Cameron, as we knew nothing about caravans and had never been interested in them.. This came in July this year and we were instantly besotted with our lovely, stylish 540Gt, if anything my wife is worse than me. It is a really strange feeling, almost like having a child again. I rarely clean our car but neighbours have queued up to watch me using lashings of expensive Autoglym polish on our Troll
We are now both retired and we intend using our Eriba in 2017 to explore parts of the UK we have missed before taking it down to Portugal. We have already chatted to a number of Eriba owners on sites and we seem to be a friendly bunch. Strangely on two sites we have had small groups of teenagers on bikes coming up and saying how "awesome" and "sick" our Troll was - great praise indeed.

Hi both and welcome to Eribafolk.
Great story and it makes me smile when I hear the old story, camping, age, hips etc. That's what happened to many on here including us.
I hope you enjoy this forum.
We took our Troll on a tour of Spain and Portugal last year. Had a terrific time in Portugal particularly, travelling the whole length of that glorious country.

I enjoyed reading that !
Can you please tell me when you bought your Eriba did they mention what the GT actually meant ?
What made it different from a 540?
I know in the old days and on a car it often meant a bigger engine, twin carbs or a wooden dash etc.
What does it mean in an Eriba ?
From my limited knowledge mine looks much the same as other Eribas
answers or ideas please

Quote: jobberwock wrote in post #5I seem to recall that the 'GT' appellation was a marketing ploy used by the then UK importers in Lechlade. My memory is hazy on this but I think the GT models came with extras over and above the standard specification including, for example, a fly screen on the door and uprated 1200Kg axle on the Triton models. Ours is a Lechlade 420GT.

If I'm right, there must have been more to it than that. Can anyone clarify this please?

Re AC 's post, that's what we got on our 2014 Triton 420GT, with alloy wheels too. We were told the silver paint finish was part of the GT package now I seem to recall, but I may be wrong. Can you still have a white GT model?

The following is taken from AL's sales marketing data sheets.
When you order a new Eriba from AL there are 3 parts that make up the total specification.
1. the Standard specification from Hymer
2. then there's ALs Recommended Upgrade which includes all of the Standard specification.
3. then there's the Upgrade to GT specification.
So whats in the Standard Spec, what's included in ALs recommended upgrade and whats included in the GT upgrade.
1. The Standard specification from Hymer.
AL-KO AKS 3004 Stabiliser]
70 litre 3-way fridge
2-burner gas hob with electric ignition
230v mains and 12V system
Truma S3004 gas convector heater
Retractable step
Thetford cassette toilet (not available on all models)
2. AL Recommended Upgrade
Spare Wheel & Carrier
External stowage flap (door side)
Side fly screen door
95ah Battery & charger
Rear seat cushions intersprung type
AL-KO 3004 hitch lock
Sink cover with chopping board
Pull out shower hose and shower curtain (model dependent)
Chassis upgrade where recommended
3. Upgrade to GT
Silver smooth exterior body
Stone protection panel
Entrance door rubbish bin
Reading lamp in rear
Alloy wheels
All the above is taken from an AL 2015 marketing sales sheet whhich was publicly available at the time.

As Jobberwock's van is a 1997 model, it would have been supplied by Lechlade. Can anyone add to my list of GT extras provided at that time?
Sprung cushions, battery and charger, stone guards and alloy wheels are all fitted to our Triton which we bought second hand.

I think you're barking up the wrong tree by associating the GT suffix with Lechlade. The GT thing is (or was) pan-European, meaning that the GT stickers were put on by the factory, apparently irrespective of what luxurious accoutrements it had fitted.
The other thing is that if you're looking for some method behind Eriba's seemingly irrational nomenclature, I don't think you'll find one.
They seem to have done stuff just because they felt like it, what the weather was like and how far above her knees the head of quality control's wife's skirt was when she arrived with a tray of canapés on a Friday afternoon.

And this even extends to the Serial Numbers and VIN Numbers on the models.
According to Jandi, our Troll 530 should be the much rarer Troll 510 model. They went on to say that they have experienced this with quite a number of Eribas, particularly 550s (or was it 555's ) which were, according to the numbers, also Troll 510s.

I think some bits were whatever type was cheapest when the factory bulk bought those bits not made in house.
