I think you're barking up the wrong tree by associating the GT suffix with Lechlade. The GT thing is (or was) pan-European,
I'm pretty damned sure that when I asked more or less the same question in 'another place' (from which I'm now banned) shortly after the purchase, some knowledgeable chap (probably Steamdrivenandy) came up with that explanation.

Strangely, I have no recollection of any discussion regarding Mrs HQC's skirt length- but I like your explanation better.

EDIT: maybe it's an age-related thing? I've just downloaded Hob's 2004 brochure and all the vans for the UK market at least were GTs so you are right, Pete.

Was it that Lechlade offered a package of optional extras in addition to the standard GT trim, I wonder?

I don't pretend to know that much about this kind of thing really - it's mostly the usual mixture of bullshit and horse feathers, but I do remember having seen that GT in red letters on the front of the roof of quite a few continental vans in photographs, so I surmised that the stickers were a factory job.

For what it's worth I think it's an age-related thing too. A combination of that and this weird thing that importers do in cherry-picking the options list to specify their vans the way they think most customers will want them and calling it some cheesy 'Special Edition' name.

Car manufacturers do a similar thing depending on the market they sell into, especially in the States where very few customers do factory orders. It seems that Americans are used to having their new cars immediately, and that involves browsing a dealer's new car lot containing dozens and dozens of cars until they find one the right color (sic) and buying that one.

Apparently European car makers hate that - having to have that many new cars in stock all the time is a logistical nightmare as well as being very expensive.

Americans. Don't you just love 'em

Wow seem to have started something here for a welcome post!

I am an ex-mod 1960's scooter rider who rode an esteemed and fairly rare Lambretta Series 2 TV175 so I am a total sucker for a GT badge.

Jabberwoks post above sums up what we got - but we also added on a number of other optional extras . The killer for us was the silver two tone body with the alloy wheels - I guess we are a pair of aging posers! we tow it with a brilliant white Octavia Scout and they look made for each other.

The day we picked it up from AL we drove to Moreton CCC site and took a photo which we didn't realise had me in matching two tone shirt & shorts with the Troll. Friends who have seen this picture accuse us of the ultimate in posing - but honest it was accidental. If I can work out how to do it I will attach it.!!

1966, my Li 150, Parka, and the Small Faces still ringing in my ears as I was singing along........Sha la la la lee yeah!

16 to 66 just like that...and I'm not talking mph.

How is it I can remember every word of that song and yet most days need Anne to tell me which cups/plates are in which cupboard in the kitchen ?

well Randa & Jabberwok we could have been in the same gang - The first two Small Faces LPs were my acest records and played to death. "What'cha gonna do about it" & "All or nothing" are still in my head.

If ever there was a mod caravan it would have to be the Eriba, though not sure about loading it with chrome mirrors and spotlights!!!!!!!!!!!!
