MTPLM upgrade
If you have a newish Eriba you may not have noticed but usually they are supplied with the upgraded axle, but the plate will probably be the lower MTPLM (Maximum Technically Permissible Laden Mass) unless you specified when buying as an optional extra. My 2012 Familia had a 1050kg BPW axle and my 2015 Familia has a 1050kg ALKO axle and the van is plated to MTPLM 900kg.
I contacted Lowdhams Hymer dealer and they gave me the email contact Kundendienst@hymer.com so that I could arrange to do it for myself. Hymer replied saying it wasn't a problem as there was no technical modification required and a new plate has been sent to me for 89 Euros.
I was a bit concerned that my spare tyre, battery and motor mover which weigh approximately 95kg was eating into the original 180kg payload allowance.
My payload has now gone up from 180kgs to a whopping 330kgs, it gives me peace of mind that if I am stopped and weighed I will not be overloaded. Unless Mrs Poptop decides she can find extra luggage to put in the van...
You can just make out the plate on the axle in the picture

Edit
I will also inform my insurance of the upgraded plate

Hi Nev, It looks like the newer vans are supplied with the upgraded axle as standard.. I would assume it's an optional extra to upgrade as the lower MTPLM make s it more desirable for the smaller cars to be compatible and your driving licence restrictions.

Um, I wonder if this all has to do with the different markets that Hymer supply to. For example, to qualify for the 100km/h sticker (which is not a requirement in the UK) certain requirements have to be met of which one is the upgraded axle. So in theory at least, it would be possible to have a 1200kg axle (stamped as such) on a van but other requirements for the 100km/h sticker have not been met, tyres being one example. There is also no registration document for vans in the UK and neither is there an MOT so all in all, one van for various markets with, for safety reasons, the lower spec plate being issued.
Great post. I will be sending them an email as well. My 2013 triton 430 has a mtplm of 1000kg but the maximum load plate on the axle states 1350kg if my memory is correct.

If you look at the data it looks like the upgraded plate for your van will be 1200kg, giving you an extra 200kg pay load..

Hello John,
After a lot of crawling around underneath with my camera, it looks like I too have the upgraded axle. On the dealer price list, this is a £335 extra. I can't believe it is already there - how can they charge so much for it? So, like you, it now seems I have much more payload than I thought. If I want to make this official, do I just e-mail the address in this thread and pay my Euro 89? If all this works out, it has made my day - amazing !
Thanks again,
Philip.

Hi Phil that's the same plate on my 2015 Familia , Lowdhams told me if they did it for me there would be an admin charge, so they gave me Hymers email to sort it out myself and save a few pennies. I emailed Hymer with the serial number and the FIN number, I also sent a picture of the van plate as a belt and braces. Just be patient as it takes a while for them to reply. I have the new plate however I have just got to sort out the payment, the number I have been ringing is in German and I think it is asking me to press options...

Can I help at all?
Thanks Deeps , I may take you up on that to try and translate what they are saying, I will try again tomorrow.. My German isn't very good, I can only remember phrases from my 1970s war comics ...
