Is it worth drilling bigger holes in the underside of the cover to let this muck out?

I don't see the point of a cover that holds dirt in? My new one has no covers, think I might be tempted to put a fairly big hole where most of the crap is and flush it with a watering can after each use,

I was thinking along the same lines Nev. I might even make a large hole with a removable access rather than leave it completely exposed. I'll be looking into the other one next week.

The larger stones must have been picked up by the tyre and dropped into the cover.

Maybe a hole with those grommet type blanking plugs?

Something like this

Mornin' Mr P

How long has it taken for that much rubble to accumulate in there?

Or to put it another way, how long has it been since you last dropped the cover to have a look?

If you have a permanent hole to let the muck out would it also let the muck get in?

Well it's the first time I have taken the cover off since putchase in 2013. It's quite difficult to do because there is very little space betweeen the top cover and the caravan body. There are plastic plugs protecting the bolt heads and there is not enough room to get the required leverage to get the top one out. I eventually extracted it using a suitably bent object.

I realise that any hole will allow muck in. There are 3 small holes already and most of the finer rubbish gets in through those and I suppose it is supposed to wash out through them. The stones are a bigger problem.
I will make a bigger hole and fit a plug or grommet to remove for flushing out.

Considering the amount of stuff in there, how long it's had to accumulate and that there are probably very few people on here who do more miles than you do, I'd be inclined not to bother doing anything about it.

I can see that it's a bit of a pain in the arse to drop the cover, but if that's all you'd have to empty out after nearly four years, is it worth cutting a hole in it?

I'm just playing devil's advocate, like.

Being a compulsive tinkerer it goes against the grain to suggest not doing anything, but when you weigh the inconvenience of what's really a pretty infrequent task against making modifications which may not work that well anyway, I can't help but think that if it were me I'd just put the cover back on and forget about it for the next four years.

Cheers Pete, that's just what I was thinking but having easier access means I can do it more often.
I only did it because I noticed the rollers were looking pitted and worn which suggested stone damage. I think expect the other side to be similar when I get into it on Monday.

We fit the Reich economy and find it perfect no problems so far and works really well. I did a thread some time ago on this and mine are still looking brand new. It has no plastic covers at all and after a couple of years as said still look new.

I cut an old pair of waterproof pants up using the legs to slide over the motor mover when travelling. I tied them on with bungy hooks so its a quick on off process. I did take photos and put them on the thread on this site.

The photographs are here.
