Which way round do you sleep?

Having now spent a night in our "new" Triton 420 so just out of interest, I thought I'd pose the the question above. We always slept head to the window in the Puck L we had but just wondered how Eriba expected the beds to be used.
The reason I ask is that both original spot/reading lights, in the Puck and Triton are at the, in our case, foot ends of the beds perhaps suggesting that you are expected to sleep feet to window? The other thing is the shelf supporting the table in the Triton, when laying down head to window you can get another Eriba kiss from the shelf 🤕 However it does give you somewhere to put your glasses, book etc which is not available to the person on the wardrobe side if sleeping feet to window. Also getting out of bed is far easier head to window, especially if made up as a double!
My intention is to put 2 further spotlights under the cupboards above the windows, as I did in the Puck, and stick a spare pillow under the shelf, so no real problem, I just wondered if anyone had gone the other way?

I would be interested in your answers, even though our Triton is a 430 and we have to sleep width ways.
I have always wondered how you can effectively sleep length ways with your head next to the window. Surely if you try and sit up in bed you risk damage to or discomfort from the window blind.

Hi Colin,
I've found that the shelf keeps you away from the blinds, but this may not be the case with the newer Tritons with the drawer unit?

In our previous 420 and 540s we have always slept with our feet nearest the rear window. This allows us to sit up, resting backs against the furniture and avoids heads against the shelf or window blinds.
I added reading spotlights with LEDs on flexible stalks.

Indeed a good question, Chris, the answer to which I've been pondering over myself for a while now. We haven't had a trip out with our Troll 542 as yet let alone get to sleep in it but already the OH and I have a differing view on this.
The 'management' states that the window end of the bed is wider and that is where the trunk should lay - or at least with her it will - and indeed this is where Hymer have located the reading lights along with some sexy downlighters that turn a blue colour for added ambience. It follows then that the legs should lay in the narrower section which also has the advantage of allowing easier getting out of bed in the middle of the night for the quick tinkle.
However, for reading purposes having the head at the window end means that one has to be extremely careful with the plastic net curtain hooks when resting ones head in the corners. I can't really see actuating the roller blinds or banging ones head against them as being a problem as there is plenty of room in the bed not to have to sleep cramped up against the window end of things although the proof of all this has still to reveal itself.

We had the same dilemma with our Troll when we first got it, and tried both sleep directions. Having our heads under the spotlights with feet to the rear window just didn't feel right, so we've had spots fitted at the back and sleep the other way round. We get a better view along the van this way IMG_3442.JPG - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)too.

We haven't used our Triton yet, but have just installed the reading lights and yes, they mean we will be sleeping feet to window. My husband is 6' and didn't fancy the constant battle with the shelf if his head was that end. We plan to use the beds as two singles, not sure how long it will last though as I will miss my morning cuddle!

That's awfully racy. There are quite a few people on here whose blood pressure could do without that kind of excitement.
You have to remember that this forum is used by old codgers for whom that kind of talk is but a distant memory.
Present company excepted, of course

Hmm, thanks all, food for thought, I am on my own in the 'van next week so will experiment and present SWMBO with my findings, I was intending to fix my tv to the wardrobe wall which would preclude resting my back against the wardrobe, also the lack of somewhere for the specs and book is an issue, if I put them on the floor I know what would happen when nature calls at the dead of night!

Chris,
We took the central cupboard out and sleep on the full double, heads at window. Much prefer layout without the cupboard. Plenty of room for two of us and the dog! Spotlights at the window end make such a difference. Never could understand why only two and in the centre of the van. We have a slatted collapsible aluminium table which we use wherever we chose to eat.

We moved from a PuckL to a 420. We have tried sleeping all ways in the van, heads to window (don't like the slope and sitting up is tricky because of the blinds). Heads wardrobe side and heads fridge side. Despite the fact that this does mean one of us (me) climbing over the other to get up in the night we have settled on heads at the wardrobe side. Not sure why, it's not a logical decision, it just happened like that. We have for short stops en route used the beds as 2 singles but it's not very cosy (being circumspect here with due consideration to blood pressure issues).
