Jockey Wheel Replacement

Hello,

The pneumatic tyre on my Alko Jockey Wheel keeps going flat. Does anyone know where I can get a direct Alko replacement? Is it easy to change just the wheel or do I need to buy the whole assembley.

I'd like to stick with the pneumatic tyre as I understand these work better with a mover. Unless someone knows better of course.

Thanks.

One here
Not replaced mine but it looks simple, just a split pin to remove and knock the spindle out with a drift.

Thanks. I guess I need to hitch the Eriba to the car and then do it so it is fully supported.

If you do a search for "jockey wheel" you'll find lots of discussion around the topic.

Have you considered fitting an inner tube to your existing tyre?

You don't need to hitch it up. Just use the steadies (and the handbrake if it's not on level ground).

It'll be fine.

There may be a skid underneath you can put some bricks or blocks under if you need the car for something else, put the handbrake on and lower the steadies too.

Wind the handle to fully extend the unit and the inner and outer tubes will part company allowing you to give it a good clean and stuff some fresh grease in the top of the lower wheel unit (where the threaded rod screws in).

If you were being really pedantic, they don't actually recommend either of them - they just say that they're 'ideal' for use with movers

Anyway, that's neither here nor there - if you wanted an AL-KO one, you can get one for rather less than the (exorbitant) seventy-odd quid AL-KO charge from here. Forty-six notes including delivery.

Cheaper still is a Winterhoff one Werbung: from here; same deal, different coloured knob.

If you simply must have a red knob, then you'll have to pay three quid for the privilege.

I've had a blue knob for ages, but it isn't pneumatic. I'd like a pneumatic one since mine sometimes gets stuck when it's rough, and it's getting a bit scruffy-looking too.

I think I might order the cheaper one.

I'd keep an eye on it in case it goes down, mind, because apparently that's what they do sometimes.

I recently bought a replacement Alko jockey wheel complete with a pneumatic tyre and was pleasantly surprised to find my old solid plastic wheel (retained from the old jockey) was interchangable with the new unit. I change the wheels over for the winter period which is a really easy job. I've had a couple of pneumatics on previous vans but eventually they lose pressure. I now carry the old wheel as a spare....just in case.

Just replaced my jockey wheel with a AL-KO pneumatic tyre as we have a inclined gravel drive which the original just dug in and dragged along the ground putting additional strain on the motor mover.

It does have a red knob !
