I have just pitched up at CC Barnard Castle near Durham and whilst using the levelling ramp I closed my door. I got it on the ramp then I was going to check the spirit level on the kitchen top. I tried the door handle and it was locked strange I thought, never mind I will use my keys, where was my keys ....on the kitchen top.. Lucky my gas box was open and the side locker, I got my tool box out and cut a piece of wire from the clothes dryer and made a tool so that I could open the window catches. After about 15 minutes I had the window open but now I had to put my Eriba legs down before climbing in, now where was the leg brace....in the van on the floor. I asked my neighbour to borrow his brace, legs down I managed to get through the window and open the door.
I have read a few threads where the door has locked itself and it now has happened to me, so my next thing on my to do list is carry the spare van key in the car...
I was going to make some window lock devices but I'm glad I didn't now....

This confused me at first because knowing you consider yourself on the short side, I had visions of you hanging in the window with your legs thrashing around in thin air
If it took you 15 minutes to get the window open John, is it worth having window security locks?

Lucky I had my small blue folding step from the side locker, as soon as my feet left it my legs were thrashing around until I fell inside. The window locks are on the back burner now after all that fuss, I am now having a cup of tea and keeping a low profile for a bit after providing the camp entertainment, .....

I always take 2 sets of keys for both the car and the van, spare car key hangs in the van and the spare van key lives in the car.

I have secreted a spare van key somewhere secure but accessible because we were locked out of ours recently in a similar way.
I was spared the legs waving about business because, quite by accident, 'somebody' had left their keys in their handbag.

I too have always carried a set of 'van keys' secreted within external access about the Eriba :) Usually also carry a spare set of Car Keys inside the van - HOWEVER NOT SO SIMPLE NOW 'cause my current tow car has 'Keyless Entry and starting ! This means that if the Transponder is within a transmitting distance from the car (ie in the caravan parked next to it - then anyone could gain access and start the car :( So will have to re-think the spare car keys ! ! Unless the transponder won't work when screened by the van body ? Will have to experiment :)
Just thought - same problem could arise leaving the main set of keys in the Eriba close to the car !!!!!!! Will have to conduct an proximity Test to see if it trans ponds that far !

My Suzuki has keyless entry and start, I just tested mine with the keys on the cupboard ledge near the window which is about 4 feet from the car and I couldn't get in. As an extra precaution you could wrap your keys in tinfoil or put them in a small metal tin. Another interesting conundrum is that I find that is if my car keys are next to my mobile phone in my pocket the cell phones signal jams the key frequency and it doesn't work.
