water pump problem

I have 1998 Pan/Fam with 12V battery fitted which is not charged when 240V is pluged in, the manual states that the battery must not be switched on when 240V is pluged in.
My problem is the water pump works with 12V battery but when you switch the battery off and use the 240V system every thing works fine except for the water pump which you can here Hum but will not pump the water

I am no electric expert but it seems strange that it works on 12v and the pump still makes a noise on 240v which suggests its still getting a power supply. I wonder if the BIP unit is reversing the polarity when on 240v causing the motor to spin in the opposite direction? try putting a multimeter across the pump terminals to see if the polarity switches over when changing the supply, it will also show if you are getting 12v with each power supply. Hopefully an Eriba electrickery wizard may know

When I go on holiday I like to pop my top!

The water pumps is designed to operate from a dc supply and will hum when supplied from ac.

If the pump previously worked ok when on mains hook-up, the rectifier within the BIP has gone faulty.

If not, It could be that the pump has been connected to the wrong fused output at the BIP unit, and is being fed 12V ac when on mains hook-up.

The second fuse down supplies 12V dc to the pump from either 230V ac supply or leisure battery.

The caravan is new to me so i do not know if the pump was working from ac before i got it.

I have use a multimeter on the ac side of the system and the pump is getting 13.2v and will run but not push the water up to the tap.

The second fused output is the one that feeds the pump but when you look at the transformer the first fused oulet has a tap sign and the second has the lights sign.

I can only echo what John said above. And he knows.

The pump needs a (fused) 12v DC supply. It's a DC motor. It won't work on 12v AC, irrespective of any noise it might be making.

AC motors aren't the same as DC ones.

A DC pump is fitted so that you can use it when there is no 230v supply available. If you are on hook-up, then the BIP transformer's DC windings provide the 12v feed required via the appropriate fused output.

Use your multimeter to check the fuse box output marked with the tap symbol for 12v DC. If that's what you've got, use that one to supply the pump.

It's entirely possible that the output with the lights symbol is 12v AC when you're on hook-up. Ours is. Incandescent light bulbs aren't fussed whether the supply is 12v DC or AC, but the pump most definitely is.
