Does anyone know where we can get the new glass or plastic fat protector for the hob, or whatever it is called? Sorry to be so ignorant.

Do you mean the frosted glass cover that folds down and covers the hob?

Hopefully this picture, if I can upload it will help you to understand my garbled plea for help. This is how it is now, with the metal plate hinged on the glass hob cover. We would like to remove this folding metal deflector and fit a clear plastic deflector that is on the latest Eriba caravans. It looks so much neater, and not as fiddly and ugly as this metal plate. Can anyone suggest where I can get a new deflector and how to fit it.

As regards the glass (not plastic), make a template and take it to a glazier, tell them what you want it for and they will give you a quote. I am guessing you will be asking for 6mm toughened glass, polished edges. I would expect £40-50 at a guess.
They should also be able to supply suitable mounts, U shaped satin chrome plated with a black nylon grub screw to hold the glass in place. If not then try and find a supplier who stock/supply Haefle kitchen and cabinetry products. https://www.hafele.co.uk/en/

I never knew glass was that expensive.

Glass is a cheap material, but the cost lies in what you do to it. Cutting to template adds a little, toughening adds a fair bit more, but then the price jumps as grinding or polishing the edges needs to be done.
The glazier can do the cutting and possibly the grinding or polishing, but the toughening needs to be sent away for doing.

Ah I see now.
Should be £40/50.
Should have gone to Specsavers.
