Hi, We are new to the club although we have been the proud owners of a 2008 Puck L 230 since April 2013 - so HELLO everyone its good to be on board. Many years ago as a camping family we saw a Puck L on a site and fell in love with its unique shape, size and build quality. Some years later we took ourselves off the the Eriba franchise at Lechlade (as was) and eventually when we retired purchased our current used Puck from Automotive Leisure at Poole. We have spent two fabulous years so far enjoying the freedom this little van has given us and along the way have met some Eriba owners who have given us invaluable tips and advice. However there are still lots of things we would like to get advice on as follows:
Our model is fitted with the roller spring catches on the overhead locker doors which we would like to change for the toggle type (as on previous models) or handle and lever type (as on new models) - has anyone got any experience of doing this and any advice to give? is it worth doing?
Currently we have steel wheels with plastic wheel trims but have thought about replacing them with alloy wheels - has anyone an opinion about this? is it worth doing? where could I get a set of wheels from?
When we purchased our Puck from AL they were unable to give us any details about previous owners although it is clear she was very well looked after. Hymer were able to confirm the original sale date and that it was purchased from the franchise in Lechlade in January 2009 but that was all. Any ideas about how we might be able to trace the original owners - would love to know a little of its history. Maybe it was one of you!
Lastly, if any of you have any other tips or ideas that you would like to pass on we would be very grateful.
Hopefully we will have an opportunity to meet with some of you in the future.
We live in Suffolk and hope to be caravanning in Devon and Dorset (July) and Scotland (September)
With Kind Regards, Tony & Corinne

Hi Tony and Corrine, welcome to Eribafolk.
I didn't realise that there was a period when Hymer used roller catches to keep the overhead lockers secure. I dare say there will be others on here who might be able to discuss the matter with you. As for us, we have an older Eriba with toggle type handles/catches and they are first class. They can however, become a bit stiff to operate during winter storage.
Like you, I've often wondered who had previously owned our van. There are lots of little bits and pieces which previous owners have added. I've had no success in tracing them however.
Perhaps if you add a photo or two to the various galleries, someone may recognise your van.
There was a thread on here some time ago regarding replacing steel wheels with alloys. I'll see if I can find anything for you.

Welcome to Eribafolk.
We had roller catches on an earlier Eriba and they were not very reliable!

If by roller catches you mean the little brown metal cage with two captive plastic rollers operated by a folded metal tang on the locker lid, then we've got those on our 2008 Troll.
They are inclined to be unreliable, but usually only if one or both of the little rollers have split. If they have, buying replacements from Jandi is your best bet. They aren't very expensive at all, and replacing like for like is usually the best thing to avoid making any extra holes in what masquerades as wood.
If the little rollers in the cage are intact, you can improve the function of the catches by opening up - widening - the head of the tang a bit with a small screwdriver. Don't overdo it or it won't go in between the rollers, and trying to make it smaller again will only end up in it getting so misshapen that it doesn't work at all.
These catches are so quick to replace that you might consider it worthwhile buying half a dozen and keeping them as spares anyway.

Hi Pepe Le Pew. Your description is exactly right and thank you for the advice about how to improve their function. It annoys us both that most time you have to slam them shut - would much prefer a toggle or lever but take the point about avoiding making extra holes in the wood.
