Looking at a few things I need to get and notice there are many types to choose from I.e the type that cradles the wheel and you jack it up to level or the tiered plastic riser plates that you drive up onto. What's the preference to most here?

The 'Jack up' type may appear attractive but in practise they are heavy and hard to use on grass. We have found that the easiest to carry and manage are the simple drive on ramp style.......and you only need one 'cos it's only one side that you have to raise!

Same here but be careful when using it. If you pull the van onto the ramp and then apply the handbrake, remember that the van will roll back several inches (auto reverse) before the handbrake energy store spring kicks in.
This rear movement often twists the van as the wheel on the ramp moves while the opposite wheel on the ground stays stationary. These ramps often come with a locking wedge but we've never been able to use them successfully.

A few off-cuts of wood stowed in the gas locker is my personal preference.
