Changing the kitchen sink tap ?

Looking for tips please from some of the more handy forumites .....

The kitchen tap on our recently purchased 2015 Eriba 430 had a small crack in the spout - think the previous owners probably didn't drain down fully over winter so some residual water in the spout has frozen and caused a hairline crack in the spout just near where it joins the main tap body.

Becks Motorhomes have sent me a full replacement tap which I need to fit/get fitted.

So I can get it changed when its serviced next, probably by Lowdhams at Huddersfield, or do it myself.

The Eriba is in storage at the moment but had a quick look and suspect the kitchen drawer needs to come out so I can get to the nut under the counter top to unscrew and remove the broken tap to replace.

Anybody changed a kitchen tap on a recent Eriba? Any advice/tips ahead of me giving it a go ?|addpics|ic3-1-6bd5.jpg|/addpics|

If the crack is in the spout, change the spout.

There's no point in replacing the tap body if there's nothing wrong with it. Swapping out the entire tap is a doddle If you're limber enough to fit in a tea chest, but a bit of a pain otherwise.

The spout is a push fit, and if I remember correctly there's an O-ring on the stub.

Thanks Pepe,

Should I spray with some lube where the spout pushes in to help things along and out or just pull, twist and grunt on the spout to remove ? Trying to avoid breaking something in a cack handed fashion !

It ought to come off relatively easily. If you turn and pull at the same time you should be okay.

Pull it straight, and have someone behind you with their feet well apart for when it comes off unexpectedly and you lose your balance.

A bit of WD might help, but it'd need to creep under the O-ring to be of much use.

A little smear of silicone grease on the ring will make putting the new spout on a bit easier.

Thanks Pepe,

We have some new gates being delivered and fitted hopefully next week, then the Eriba will be coming home from storage. So can give the tap spout a go then.

Will add a bit of vaseline to the o-ring on the new spout.

Thanks again for the advice,
Dave

I'd use silicone grease. Apparently Vaseline (being petroleum-based) degrades rubber seals, and a tiddly pot of silicone isn't expensive. Try a plumber's merchant.

Cheers

Just noticed on the new tap there is a tiny grub screw in the tap body holding the spout I think. Will be a real pain to get to and loosen on the current tap in place. Will need a 90 degree screwdriver with a tiny Phillips type driver head, it's a tiny, tiny screw.

Quick update: I was able to change just the spout, after removing the little grub screw with a very small philips type screwdriver. The new spout has to be inserted so the small hole lines up with the hole in the tap body as the grub screw goes through the tab body hole and screws into the hole in the spout to retain it in place.

All fixed ahead of going off to Masham this coming weekend !

Thanks for your help Pepe.
