Tony,
some small print could be found in the small print regarding towing when I had a pcp on my Yeti, but it related to out of the UK.

Dave,
that is a typical main dealer price for a factory build towbar.

Colin

Just a thought. Did you have any problems getting a tow-bar. I know some of the Kodiaq were not type approved and as such it is illegal to tow with the vehicle.

I'm intrigued by her location description. 45 mins of M5/M42 can be anywhere from Tenbury Wells in the west, to Stroud in the south, Kettering in the east and Derby in the north. That's about 10% of the country.

Totally off topic(what's new here) we had a look around an old Carlight that was on a garage forecourt as we drove past. Think it was 50s/60s. We didn't realise that they were originally made in Sleaford, Lincolnshire which is only 15 miles from us. It was very cute, lots of real wood inside. Looked solid outside too. We only looked, wouldn't have anything other than an Eriba either (I'm with you here Pete).

IIRC Carlights were 'revived' a couple of years back and were offering modern Elddis vans rebranded Carlight and refitted with craftsman built interiors. I don't think the project lasted long.

I do love the look of the clerestory roofs on old Carlights though.

I think if we were all honest with each other a conventional caravan would tick all the boxes...
Dear Mr Top

Normally, I read everything you say with a mixture of respect, reverence and humility. Everything.

However, in this particular case, the wisdom and common sense which has characterised your posts hitherto has gone.

Totally.
Disappeared without trace.

"I think if we were all honest with each other a conventional caravan would tick all the boxes".

Are you utterly mad? Have you cracked your noggin on something dull and unforgiving?

I've never heard such a load of old cobblers in my entire life.

I'm being absolutely and completely honest in saying that I would rather eat my own hands than admit to a conventional caravan ticking all my boxes.

There is nothing - nothing, I tell you - about a conventional caravan which ticks any of my boxes. Nothing. Not one solitary, white, wobbly thing.

If we didn't have an Eriba, we wouldn't have a caravan at all. Period. Wouldn't cast one even the most cursory of glances, far less touch one even with your barge pole.
So there
.

I must appoligise for my lack of compassion and humility with the off the cuff remark, by inference I was insinuating that an Eriba owner of good reput may have at some stage in their tugging life have harboured dark thoughts regarding owning a large wobbly white leaking box.

As a mark of my penance I will publicly flaggilate myself with nettle leaves when I next visit Sainsburys

At present still stuck with a white wobbly on me drive what my car can't tow.

And struggling with - do I get a 420 with single beds I can fit in and floor room for dogs and is 1200kg or under, but has nowhere to sit whilst Mrs SDA sleeps the morning away.
.
Or a 430 with beds I can fit in across the van, just about, with more limited dog floorspace and with a place for me to sit supping tea away from my sleeping lady.

Or try and find a 1200kg Troll (presumably pre 2010) or try and swap the Yeti for a stronger pulling one and get a 1300kg Troll.

GROAN.

Unless your pockets are deep would it not be best to concentrate on just the van for the moment and get a 1200kg Troll that the car can cope with for a couple of years until replacement time.
Yes you would be looking at a pre 2010 540, or a non UK 55series may also be found at 1200kg. I remember my 2007 552 was a 1300kg axle in the UK but 1200kg as standard on the continent. I had to spec it up to get the 1300kg, something the supplying dealer was a little surprised at when I ordered it. As we know the stock of vans on the continent is greater and whilst prices are not as attractive as a few years ago the condition is generally excellent due to the caravan MOT type test some countries have.

Of course another option is to buy a recent 1300kg Troll but be v careful to only fill it to 1200kg. Trouble is because the 2010 MIRO is heavier, the available Payload would be lower.

Also, I'm 6ft 1.5ins tall and having had both '01 and '05 Trolls I'd rather have the extra headroom of a post 2010, especially in the washroom and doorframe.

I would get a 1200k Troll, then when you replace the tow car have the Troll uprated to 1300k at a cost of €89
