Maximum wattage?

We're looking for electrical cooking accessories, such as oven, grill hotplate, and wondered what the maximum wattage we should be looking for, given the constraints of the typical hookup. eg Would the oven shown here be ok?

Any advice gratefully received!

These are used by many owners. Each year Aldi and Lidl both sell such ovens with the 1200/1400 watt elements. This is 5 or 6 amps. A standard UK hook up is normally 16 amp so they are fine. If going abroad where the ampage available is usually lower at 10 and sometimes only 6 amp then you should still be OK, so long as you do not put the kettle or water heater on at the same time.
All I would advise is that take care when using these as the insulation is next to none existent and they do get very hot.
In 2008 we were part of a group of 5 families, 24 of us in total, who went away to the Dordogne. We had the Eriba whilst the others rented posh huts. These had 10 amp electrics and upon my suggestion several of these ovens were bought for the holiday. Most nights we did communal cooking using the ovens, very effectively. They are a good buy.

Amps =watts /volts......... The appliance is 1200 watts and campsite electrics are 230 volts.

Therefore Amps = 1200watts / 230volts = 5.2 amps to run it. So, as Mr motters says, on a 6amp or 10 amp campsite we would recommend that you don't boil the kettle at the same time.

As a guide most UK EHU,s are 10-16 amps. Power (watts) = Voltage x Current (amps). That oven will draw 5 amps on full power so should be OK, however you have to take into consideration what else you are using at the same time as it all mounts up !

You could always boil a kettle on the stove, except that 95% of peeps on here are scared to death - or too cheap (no names no pack drill, Mr Cauldron) - to use their gas.

Other than a large explosion or waking up dead, what's the worst that can happen?

He keeps going on about gas. Has he got shares or is he sniffing it? As we do all our cooking outside on a induction hob I can see no reason at all to grovel about in the gas locker to get the gas turned on and then, everytime we want a cuppa, remove all the bits and pieces that find themselves on the worktop, to expose the 3 burner hob before plonking the kettle on it and lighting it. After boiling it has to remain there at least until it's cooled down. Far easier to flick a switch.

I hope you aren't averse to a well-intentioned suggestion.

You need to use the water while it's still very hot.

If you wait until it's cooled down you'll have to boil it again. And again. And again...

The portable induction hob is great for us too. It has variable power settings, selectable temperatures, timer and is very quick to cool down.
We used a standard electric ring for some time but found that the thermostat was very crude and it was constantly cycling off and on so food was always heating or cooling, simmering was almost impossible to regulate. The induction hob is much more controllable and user friendly.

Aldi/Lidl are worth checking out. We went posh though and bought a Tefal from John Lewis https://www.johnlewis.com/tefal-ih201840...ion-hob/p592363 It is twice the price of the cheapo's, but we bought it because Mrs eribaMotters works for them and gets her work discount, but mainly it has a low start up setting/wattage. This is important as many induction hobs have a high start up wattage and can trip the electrics. We are very pleased with it and use it whenever we can whilst away.

We have had very good service from our Andrew James hobs so we've just bought another one. It has a default of 50% of maximum when first switched on so it doesn't trip the electrics.

Don't forget though that you need steel bottomed pots.
