Ouch! Service costs

UK manufacturer's say a similar thing but when questioned they'll also say that any member of the AWS is an 'approved service centre'. It would be interesting to hear what Hymer UK aka Elddis/Compass/Buccaneer say about it as their UK vans have been happy to allow AWS in the past.

It would seem that Hymer are in the wrong as they no longer give a service sticker.
Colin
Hi Colin, the last time I spoke to Lowdhams it's all digital now with Hymer, they will know from the serial number if the servicing has been kept up to date.

My AL contract makes a fleeting reference to 'manufaturers warranty terms and conditions' but 5 mins on Google and I am not able to find them. If they dont make the terms reasonably available then arguably you can't be bound by them. Unreasonably onerous terms and conditions can also be held to be unfair and therefore void.
My opinion is that the damp sticker isn't really worth the paper its written on outside the 2 year warranty and in the first two years you would go after the seller anyway. You will be pursuaded by the seller to comply with the warranty terms, because in the event of a fault it gets them off the hook re costs! I think most people have it done to have a full history in case they sell their van. If I get a defective van in the first two years (or later), damp or otherwise, I will be pursuing the supplier anyway as one's rights are far stronger and clearer and compliance or otherwise with any manufacturers warranty terms and conditions is irrelevant.
By the way, for those who may not know, paying just a deposit on a credit card can get you equal legal liability with the credit provider.

Regarding the stamp.
I am aware that it is now all electronic/on computer, but I'm a pedantic old git and if Hymer state a stamp then that is what you should get. They will as we know play with words to avoid a claim, so they should reword documentation to reflect the new system.
The latest digital copy I have of the Owners manual is 2014. On page 5 it states:-
"Annual inspection
The purchaser shall send the vehicle regularly, every year, to the vendor or
to an authorised HYMER AG dealer or service centre for inspection. The
purchaser shall bear the cost of the inspection."

Just been looking in my service folder for something else and I noted the following statement :
"The buyer is obliged to submit the vehicle to an annual inspection. This inspection must be conducted by the vendor or an authorised dealer or service partner of Hymer GmbH & Co."
I bought my 540 from AL but for simple geographic reasons had the first service and some other work done at Adventure Leisure Vehicles in Tebay. I was very happy with the work that they did.. MikeT

Another clause, that I was totally unaware of, so beware new owners, is the first service MUST be done before the van is 12 months old. The grace period of ? months either side of the yearly service only counts for year 2 onwards. I was told this by Lowdhams when trying to book a Feb 2017 van in for first service in Feb/March 2018. I ended up taking the van in January, silly sod I thought towing in driving rain and near freezing temperatures. Turned out I did fine as if I had gone in later I could have been dragging it through 6 inches of snow.

Interesting... I was told exactly the opposite by AL when I spoke with Cameron at the February NEC show. I bought my new 540GT last October and asked him when I needed to book it's first inspection as my work commitments sometimes mean I'm overseas for extended periods; his reply was that it would not be a problem if the service did not take place in October 2018 and that November or even December would be ok. Maybe I should check with them again...

Hi
Our 420 was a fraction over 12 months old when we contacted Lowdhams. After some headshaking they said we had up to 18 months to complete the service (£315) though the second service would have to be within the 2 years. So flexible but pricey.

I am pretty sure that when I contacted Adventure Leisure at Tebay about having our first service done last year they told me that I had a two month window either side of the date we had collected it from the dealer. I wanted it it done early as I was going into hospital and didn't have the time to go down to AL in Poole. MikeT

I can maybe understand AdvL and Becks getting it wrong as they've not been Eriba dealers that long and Lowdhams despite having had a franchise for a long time sell an awful lot of WWB's and are unlikely to have too much expertise, but AL should know what they're talking about as they're specialist AND have years and years of experience..

Hi Soulbluesman
Is Adventure Leisure an authorised Hymer Service agent?
Yes
There are more Hymer agents in the UK that don't sell Eriba Tourings, but as Hymer agents they are authorised to service them and stamp whatever needs stamping. The specific Eriba Touring agents are Adventure Leisure, Jandi,in Scotland, Becks in Norfolk, Lowdhams in Nottingham with their Huddersfield branch not really specifically authorised and Automotive Leisure in Bournemouth.
