We have a twin hotplate that gives the AC 220-240-50hz 1900-2250W

How do I work out if this liable to blow the electrics on our upcoming visit to Dorset?

It will need 9.8 Amps if both plates are on full.

Bryn, it's watts = amps x volts. or in other words it's amps = watts/volts.

I thought a 1Kw fire used roughly 4 amps (well 1000W/230V = 4.35amps to be more acurate)
Therefore a 2250W hot plate will consume 9.78amps
Also the 1900W hot plate will consume 8.26amps if turned full on.
So surely if both plates are turned full on you will use 18.04amps which obviously will blow the 16amp campsit supply. Am I right or am I wrong?

Think the 2250W refers to both plates being on full power otherwise the unit might make a very useful heater for the awning but be careful of fire

And the answer is
Assuming that the figure is for both plates on at the same time, the calculation is 1900/240 = 7.91A to 2250/240 = 9.38A (say 8 to 10 amps) so you should be perfectly safe on a 16A UK supply. (Logically the figures quoted must be for both plates on together otherwise the unit would draw nearly 19 amps on full power and blow a typical domestic supply)

If the power goes off at Lychett Minster we'll know who to blame.

Never give this a thought before, if you do exceed the ampage, what do you do, see the guys in the office I suppose if or can it be reset at the plug in point?

Different rules across different sites. You should have to go to the office but may be lucky if the site is lax and you find you can open the box and reset it yourself.

a bit of a give-away would be the fact that this unit would be powered through a 13 amp fused plug, so yes the maximum this would draw with both hotplates on is 9.38 amps, I believe the electrical hook-up on a lot of UK sites is backed up with a 10 amp circuit breaker although I stand corrected if this isn't so.
