The second leisure battery space is under the passenger seat which is a bit of a faff to remove (not to mention it's weight).
From what I recall when it was off, back ten days ago, there was a padded metal bar fitted to the seat base to restrain the battery, plus a piece of wood in the bottom shaped to hold a battery in place. There were the normal two battery connections and a fair bit of, mainly blue, thinner wiring, which included the rack of five fuses. I'm afraid I didn't investigate where the wiring ranand don't recall any other loose connections under there. I'll try and take a gander this morning with a torch, but not much is visible without seat removal.

I've had a mooch at what's visible from the front of the front seat and I'm not sure why I thought all the wiring was blue.

As you can see there are a whole host of wires running off the positive battery connection and I assume the small plastic box is a split charge relay, though it doesn't say so on it. Interestingly it has a price label from Bardsea Leisure in Cumbria and that suggests that the extra leisure battery was not fitted by the original converters, but by a Cumbrian firm or individual, where the van has been resident since original supply.
I've also checked all six fuses and they are fine.
Am I right in thinking that with the battery connector shown not being attached to anything, there would be no power from either leisure battery going to the appliances at the other end of those multifarious wires?
As far as I can see there are no other disconnected wires, except the battery earth cable.

Normally the 2 leisure batteries should be connected in parallel, ie: +ve connected to +ve and -ve connected to -ve, unless the batteries were allocated to power specific loads (for example a motor mover in a caravan, but you won’t need one of those). Perhaps the missing battery was allocated to run the fridge on 12V when not hooked up and the existing battery is on a separate circuit? It sounds like it really needs checking out by an auto-electrican although you say that’s been done; I can only offer my opinion that if they were sufficiently adept then they would solve the mystery and with any luck provide you with an up-to-date wiring diagram since the original circuit has been modified.
How it works now is patently not correct as John E says. Any nice campsites up his way?

We're almost on the edge of John's patch anyway, just an hour from the centre of Chester.
However the van is going back to the dealer in Blackpool on Monday to have a second leisure battery fitted and we'll see what happens after that.
They've also got to sort out the aircon, which blows out v v v hot air, not chilled, fit to new rear tyres as the current ones are original and manufactured in Week 2 of 2008. They've also got to restore sound to the nearside audio speaker which is dead.

I've been thinking on about this battery issue. There aren't too many electrical items on board that are actually meant to work off the leisure battery. The compressor fridge, the water pump and the lights. On hook-up everything works fine and the fridge works whichever zig setting you choose, or even if you don't choose a setting at all. Off hook-up the fridge won't work at all, no matter what zig setting you choose. However the pump and lighting won't work if you select the leisure battery, but will if you select the car battery.
So I'm thinking that all three are normally fed from the missing second leisure battery, when zig is set to 'caravan', but that lighting and pump are able to revert to the 'car' battery, whilst the fridge can't. This does beg the question about what on earth the original leisure battery is supposed to be powering under this arrangement?

As arranged, I returned the van to the dealer on Monday and caught a train home. I chatted with the guys who have responsibility for sorting the issues and they seemed to understand the problems.
1. is to fit a second leisure battery which should mean the fridge, pump and lights should start working off the battery, not just when an EHU is plugged in.
2. sort out the cab aircon which blows hot air, no matter how you set the controls.
3. fit two new decent rear tyres as the current ones are more than 10 years old and have only done 45k miles. That means the rubber will have gone brittle.
4. get the nearside audio speaker to work.
'4' seemed to resolve itself as after 18 days ownership and 500 miles the speaker suddenly came to life as I drove up the M6.
Tuesday 6pm I got a call to say that they'd re-gassed the aircon but it still wasn't sending cold air into the van and there was a problem with the air distribution system. The tyres were to be fitted Wednesday and the second leisure battery.
Wednesday 5.30pm another call to say the van was at the tyre fitters overnight and they were awaiting an aircon part. The fitter's reckoned they sorted the 12V problems but the sales guy hadn't seen it demonstrated yet.
Thursday I was supposed to get a call reporting progress, hopefully so I could catch a train back to Blackpool on Friday morning to collect the van. No call has been forthcoming and I've left an answerphone message for an urgent call in the morning.
