How far do you take security? I have just read on "another forum" of someone who has a JSB hub clamp http://www.jsbhublock.co.uk/, wheel clamp [for the other wheel] plus hitch lock and security post, CCTV, and gated drive. am I the only one who thinks this is a bit over the top? by the time I had removed all that I would have lost interest in going away.

It may just reflect the area in which they live, or it could be some naughty little pixie has previously relieved them of an expensive 2 wheeled investment and they would like to prevent a recurrence, perhaps at the instigation of their insurer?

The public perception - driven by media reinforcement - of the legal/policing system of 2018 suggests that quite frankly you're pretty much on your own when it comes to protecting your property or indeed your life.

If this arrangement helps them sleep at night then that's fine with me.

It's a sign of the times.

The police will not go to any trouble in investigating the theft of a caravan. A crime reference number and that's it!

Most criminals are lazy and look for easy pickings.

Most victims believe they have been unlucky and yet failed to take basic precautions to deter the action of criminals.

The bottom line is if you value something it is up to you to deter criminals from helping themselves to it.

Don't finish up saying to yourself, 'If only'.

There are around 1200 to 1500 caravans stolen in the UK every year.

Enjoy your holidays.

Cheers Ian

Caravan theft is fairly rare and Eriba theft is a lot rarer than WWB. There seems little point in going OTT as the risk is relatively low. Having said that, just one theft can be psychologically damaging, even if the the cost is covered by insurance.

Apparently the caravan mentioned in the first post isn't an Eriba, it's a big Hobby.

It seems that caravans like that are much, much more likely to be nicked than Eribas, mostly because Eribas aren't much use to the kind of people who need to get fifteen children, twelve bicycles, three lurchers, seven clapped-out washing machines and fridges along with twenty gross of lucky rabbits' feet, sprigs of heather and eight thousand clothes pegs into a van which doesn't belong to them.

Are you saying we've chosen the wrong caravan Pete?

We do have to distribute our 8000 clothes pegs carefully in our Triton to ensure we keep the nose weight to 50kg

We have found the following as optimum:
2000 in the toilet footwell
2000 stored under the left hand side bench
2000 stored under the right hand side bench
1000 stored under the front left side seat
1000 stored under the front right side seat

Once pitched you do need to move the pegs from the toilet area to use the loo, but hey ho !

Hope this helps others

Don't forget storage for your upkeep of these poor souls ie false or stolen welfare payment books.

Thinking about this today on the way to B&Q for the second time.....The value of a stolen Eriba is probably more in scrap than re-sale. After all you've got aluminium skin, steel tube frame, copper wiring and the Alko chassis, wheels and tyres can be sold and a nice large battery and a couple of gas cannisters - not much waste there!!
