Electric hook ups
I don't have my caravan yetbut working on it and even looking at close by sites for my first trek.
Please can someone explain what I need to look for with regards to electric hook ups? Why are some different amps and how will I know which one I will need? Will it depend on which Eriba.....or are all Eribas the same amp?
Zitat
or are all Eribas the same amp?
amps is a measurement of power supplied by the site and is the maximum you can use at any given time each electrical thing you use has a power rating (the amount of electric it uses) usually listed in watts (just to confuse things) so eriba do not have an amp value.
have a read of this file I provided for Eribafolk use.

or EHU on a site supplies electrical power, most sites in this country are 10 to 16 Amps.
This is an on paper figure and if everyone tried to draw, say 10Amps, at tea time the site
circuit breaker would probably operate. So if you have a heater on, Kettle on and an oven
or cooker of some sort you may well find your local EHU Bollard will trip and need resetting
Initially run just what you need adding appliances as others are turned off.
hob's chart will help no end.

Ohm's Law states that Amps x Volts = Watts so as a rough guide, divide an appliance's Wattage by the Voltage (250 is near enough) to give an approximation of how many Amps you are drawing.
A 1000W heater will therefore draw 1000/250 = 4 Amps (approx) and a 3000W kettle 3000/250 = 12 Amps (approx)
On the Continent, 6 Amp supplies are quite common and tripping the circuit breaker is easy. That's why we use a 900W, 2-cup kettle on site as the first time I used a domestic kettle in France I tripped the breaker and had to get Monsieur le Gardien out in the rain to re-set it. He was NOT amused.

We all take for granted electricity at home as the house is wired up to run pretty well whatever we want to plug in within reason (at least most modern ones are) and the supply to the house is too.
When it comes to a caravan you are basically running everything in it from what amounts to a single extension lead so a little knowledge of the science behind it becomes a necessity, the C & CC pdf file explains it all rather well I think.
