2018 Troll 540GT and Thule 6200 roof mounted cassette

Information humbly requested from the Eribafolk hive mind...

I've a 2018 model 540GT Troll with a factory fitted Thule Omnistor sun canopy and am in the initial stages of buying a Thule Residence room to make it a full awning. Has anyone any idea how long the Hymer supplied cassette is?

Unfortunately I'm out the country until next week and unable to measure it myself.

Does 3.5m sound correct? It would be great if anyone could help out with a tape measure...

From memory the factory fit is a different size to a retro fit.
The 2018 brochure has it down as -
"83072 - Roof awning in current design with integrated, dimmable LED lights and ERIBA adapter, expandable with e.g. sun-, rainlocker, 325x250 cm2"

Yes, I was worried that was the case; I think the retro-fitted ones are slightly longer, especially the side mounted version.

There's an almost new Residence Room going for half price on the FB page but sadly at 3.5m I think it will be too long for my cassette...

Doh!

I've not looked at the design but I'd imagine the depth is the same so the sides should still fit. How much would it cost to have the front length reduced? Do you have a local sail maker, awning repair service or somebody who makes trailer covers?

Evening Robiin,

The factory fit 6200 awning with LED lights is 3250mm in length. Like you, I noticed the safari room for sale at a good price, but my 6200 is only 3000mm!

Cheers Mark

Thanks Mark,

The plot thickens... So, as a few people have suggested (and I am unable to confirm until I return to the UK) the factory-fitted Hymer-supplied awning is 3.25m yet you have only 3.0m... was this a retro-fit? Is it roof or side mounted? It's an enigma wrapped up in a conundrum...

Bugger! Only one thing for it...

It's an idea Colin but then we're into the realms of the purchase price plus cost of alterations getting close to the cost of a brand new setup from John Rose which obviously comes with statutory guarantees etc... I'll have to do some more research although the said bargain will be up on eBay by this weekend so I'm not confident about a happy ending

Fiamma and Omni market/sell awnings based on the overall product length. The actual length of the goods is shorter. I take it you have contacted Rose awnings [I believe they are the experts] and asked what size room kit you need for a factory fit cassette.

I haven't contacted Rose Awnings since it would be them losing a sale if I bought the second-hand one. The seller specifies that his awning is to fit a 3.5m cassette and his pictures show a retro-fitted side mounted unit whereas mine is a roof mounted factory fit. The only way to be sure is to measure it when I get home and hope the item is still for sale...

Rob,

When I bought our Troll from AL, I hadn't decided on an awning. At that point there was a lot of discussion about inflatable awnings, and people didn't seem happy with the higher awning rail on the post 2012 vans. I therefore opted for a cassette awning and looked at Rose Awning s as they're near to AL.
They offered an Omnistor 4900 3,50M gutter rail awning, or a 6200 3.00M roof mounted awning. Cameron at AL intimated that a roof mounted cassette is a far better selling point than a gutter awning, and it gives the option of using a normal awning as well.

I then saw a picture of a 3.25M 6200 cassette on the forum, and enquired with John Rose if this was an option. He said he had managed to get a 3.25M fixing bracket as a one off, but was not now available to Rose Awnings. He advised that only Hymer can access the bracket, and that it's only for factory fit cassettes which includes the LED strip.

So, to sum up, if you order the 6200 with the van, you can have it at 3.25M, but if it's a retro fit like mine, then it will be 3.00M..

The only other point is that if it's the factory fit, it will have 3 No mechanical fixings through the roof.

Have you bought a Remoska yet?

Cheers Mark

Thanks Mark.

I actually spoke with Rose Awnings today and they confirmed that my factory fit is indeed a 3.25m cassette mechanically bolted to the roof which rules out buying the cheap second-hand one for sale unless of course I spend some extra getting it modified which would somewhat defeat the point; also a new one will obviously come with no risk and a guarantee...

I'm still resisting the temptations of a Remoska; so far, so good...

Rob

Try Rick at AL Cumbria if you get it through an authorised dealer both the Triton 3.0m with LED and Eriba brackets or the Troll 3.25m with LED and Eriba brackets should be available for retro fitting

Would you mind posting a few pics of the awning? I'm interested in where it sits on the roof so pic of each end and side view would be great :-) (no need to open awning,

Thanks

Interest that you say:-

In January I placed an order with John for a 3.25m Thule 6200. White cassette and Sapphire Blue fabric. With Eriba roof mount adapter + G3 Residence to suit. This for a new Troll 540 on order with delivery scheduled end of May / early June. Presumably he has found a new source of roof mount adapters! Our current 540 is fitted with a roof-mounted (by John) 3.5m 4900 cassette for which we have the G2 Residence Room.
