I hate gardening and it was with some reluctance this afternoon that I let Mrs Calder twist my arm to make me take the lawn clippings to the local tip or, to give it its posh name, the Waste Recycling Facility.
Said WRF takes in dozens of unwanted gas cylinders that are stacked higgledy-piggledy in a lockable, chainlink compound. Although I don't need any more cylinders, I simply can't help casting a casual eye over the jumbled up contents whenever I visit.
My two CampinGaz 907 bottles one of which I carry on the van to power the Cadac Safari Chef and to use as an emergency gas supply on the Continent should the need arise are both nearly empty so as the gate to the compound was open and a scruffy-looking 907 was within easy reach, I just had to pick it up and give it a shake. It was full!
Needless to say, I now have three 907 cylinders.
I've just done a search and empty 907 cylinders are currently retailing for around £20 with a further £20-27 being charged for a refill so, at £3 for the discarded bottle, I have stocked up with gas for the next couple of years' Cadac use and saved myself somewhere in the region of £40 into the bargain.
The moral is that if you need a gas bottle, your local tip should be your first port of call. You never know your luck.
Sadly there was no 46cm Mountfield self-propelled mower with a knackered motor sitting around waiting to be rescued but I live in hope.
