Correct tyres for 2012 Familia 320 ?

Further to me earlier query re. tyre fitters in Swansea /Neath I have contacted two places to ask if they can source and fit the correct tyres for my van and I am now a little confused ......The tyres that are on the Familia when I bought it from Automotive Leisure are 185/70 R13 86T. When I quote this spec. to the tyre fitter I have been told that these are for a car and not really suitable for a caravan and I need to fit 185/70 R13 106/104 which are specifically suited for trailers and caravans. However when I checked the Eriba manual for my caravan they are advising 185/70 R13 86N which is virtually the same as I have on now with just a difference in the speed rating ..........would really appreciate any advice so that I get the correct ones ........ .thanks

An 86 load rating on a standard car tyre has a Max recommended axle load of 954kg, Max permissible axle load of 1060kg, You do not want to go any higher as the van will bounce around.
The 106 load rating the tyre fitter advises is for a light commercial tyre and not what you need. It has a Max recommended axle load of 1710kg, Max permissible axle load of 1900kg, if on an R14 rim.
Be polite, stand your ground and tell him your caravan is a lightweight and not a bog white wobbly box. If he argues then best to walk away.

185/70 R13 86T.

These are exactly the same size as on my van James and are the size of tyre that came with the van from new. 86 load rating is 530kg, therefore two tyres on the axle equates to 1060kg which should be ample. The T rating is excessive at it means you can get up to speeds of 118mph.
What is equally important is the max inflation in psi. When we bought a new set from Town Tyres in 2014 they came with a 50 psi inflation rating. We bought another tyre from them in 2017 and it had a 50 psi tyre rating. (Eriba suggest 3bar (43.5psi inflation).

If you speak to Ashley at Town Tyres and mention my name (Roger) Tell him that like me, you have an Eriba caravan. He may remember me as he was able to locate the appropriate tyres on both occassions. circa £50 including fitting and balancing.

Sorry I can't give you the make of tyre he supplied as he didn't write it on the invoice (March 2014 [Neath Depot now closed] and July 2017 [Morriston Depot]) and the van is wrapped up for the winter.

Hi All, I am just at the point of replacing my tyres on my 320GT which I bought new in Belgium in 2015. I remember driving it away from the showroom and the van was bouncing around like a mad thing behind the car. Luckily, we did not have to go far to our campsite, and I checked the pressures which were 60 psi! The actual tyre wall info said max 44psi. I contacted the dealer and they confirmed adamantly that they were correct at 60 psi. Eribamotters was an absolute star at that time as he explained the difference between CAR tyres and TRAILER tyres. Previous Eriba vans did indeed have trailer tyres , but the dealer had not updated his info to reflect the new car tyres fitted . Anyway, I digress, I was going to fit the exact same tyres as factory fitted , (which were plentiful Aug 20) but I can;t find any on the internet now. Does anyone know a good make for 185/70/ R13 86T replacements? Many thanks, Paul

Hi, it's me again.
I have two sites for starters, that are supply only so it narrows your search. They will deliver to you or a local dealer who you pay for fitting.
This is best for finding the cheapest supplier. https://www.tyrecomp.co.uk/car-tyres/185-70-r13-t.htm
I have then bought from this company where it may be easier for you to get reviews https://www.tyreleader.co.uk/car-tyres-185-70-13/
You may not mind taking wheels off and putting the van up on axle stands so you can just take the wheels in, or now you have to book appointments it may be easy to tow the van to your chosen fitter [each site has links so you can find somebody local]

Colin

Just checked my 2017 Triton and it is running Vanis, which are not on the lists. If I was choosing from the lists now I would start by looking at the NANKANG ECONEX NA-1 through Tyreleader. A respected name with good reviews and a decent price.

For Triton and Troll owners, after a bit of searching I have come up with this that may be of help

Many thanks Colin. There is a local mobile fitter who said they will fit tyres on my drive for £25 each , if I supply . So I will probably go down that route after buying them .

If having them fitted at home try etyres. The £25 each to fit sounds expensive.A quick check on my postcode shows £12 charge each tyre for mobile fitting I think I used them with my Familia. I phoned them up and they advised against the special they had on offer as shelf life was not good and checked stock for what would give me a longer service life.

Thanks again Colin. I never thought about the shelf life of the tyre being supplied , I will be sure to ask.
